Jan 17, 2010 - Bangkok and Beyond

Arrived early and went for a Tuk Tuk ride around Bangkok to see the temples. It was a government holiday so I got the tuk tuk for 10 bhat for as long as I wanted to tour. Went to Temple Benchamabophit, Temple of Blue Buddha, Temple of Green Buddha and Wat Indraviharan(45 m tall Buddha). It is common for tuk tuk drivers to try to get you to go to other places. Sucked in, had a nice cotton shirt made at the tailors, and then the driver took me to a jewellry store, yikes cheapest ring $600 cdn, not likely. Well he was kinda ticked because if I...

Jan 7, 2010 - Krabi, Thailand

Thursday 7th January 2010 Time to move onto another country today – Thailand is the fifth out of nine which we are planning to visit. We travelled from Penang to Krabi – it was another very long minivan journey and pretty stressful as they don’t leave you anytime to get any lunch! As we hadn’t eaten breakfast either it made a long journey seem even longer! We crossed the border at Sadao (Thailand) - Kayu Hitam (Malaysia) and drove up through the south of Thailand to the town of Krabi which we are going to use as our base for the next few...

Big trip home!

Dec 29, 2009 - Krabi

Dec 27, 2009 - Varkala/KL/Krabi/Ao Nang Beach

Four lovely relaxing days at Varkala. Very touristy but food and beer available at the same premises so that did it for us. Lots of swimming, walking, eating. Brilliant end to India. All in all we've really loved it. They reckon there is a 48/52 percent of travellers to India who either vow NEVER to return against those who love it - we often fell between the two but after getting our bearings again in Goa and Kerala, we'll be back. Did meet several people who most definately fell into the first, seems the north is even more full on than...

Nov 21, 2009 - I Got a Bamboo Tattoo !

The morning after guys from the guesthouse came to pick up us . Later we took the boat to krabi and once arrived we decided to share a room all together to save money. We had wifi in the room so we were staying on internet and Loic came out to check the tattoo shop as he wanted to get a bamboo tattoo ( a tattoo made manually with a bamboo instead of the machine. It is an ancestral way to make tattoo. ) I was thinking to get one on my feet , just a stars shadow to finished the tattoo I already get in bali two years ago but I didn t planned...

Nov 11, 2009 - Krabi

The vacation starts! I arrived in Krabi today. Bangkok was Bangkok but I already feel more relaxed here. Although the taxi driver told me the hotel I booked over the Internet used to be rented by the hour. Well its paid for. I went for a walkabout town and it started to rain, no surprise. I took shelter at a drink stand and started talking with an Scottish expat. He has been here about five years. I got the low down while his wife was at the dentist. What a coincidence. He suggested I go to Ao Nang, as I could get a better deal on the...

Sep 9, 2009 - Natty and Carls thailand adventures

Right, so the thailand adventures continue! The night before the full moon party we decided to party hard (get those livers working, right? wrong.) We may of partied a little TO hard, if there is such a thing. We casually strolled home at about 4 am, after god knows how many buckets. Thankfully, we had our friends with us to keep us in line. After a little over 5 hours sleep, we awake to THE FULL MOON NIGHT!! feeling a little hungover, but rather excited for full moon we embarked on this beautiful adventure, open armed and open minded with...

Jun 17, 2009 - First days in Thailand

Thailand has been a country we have been talking about for a long time. Natasha and I both love Thai food and also love the beach so it’s been high on our list. The first city we flew into was Krabi. It’s just across the Malaysia/Thailand boarder and a very short flight from Kuala Lumpur. We thought that because it wouldn’t take long to get there and we want to see as much of the country as we can, this would be a great place to start. We booked a hotel on line that was just off the main strip and checked in. This place was deluxe with our...

May 22, 2009 - Krabi

After saying our goodbye's to Celia, Janine and Mat we returned to Krabi and the rather oddly named Lipstick Guesthouse (it was in Ilona's guidebook, not mine) whose owners I have to say were very courteous and helpful. There's no shortage of accomodation in Krabi, there must be more guesthouses and travel agents per square meter here than anywhere else in Thailand. Krabi doesn't have a lot to see but it is an excellent jumping-off point for the northern Andaman Islands, and there is Wat Tham Seua some 10 k's out of town which was caught...

Where's Malcolm?

Apr 27, 2009 - Krabi - day 9

This morning we drive to Bangkok (approx 4 hours) to catch our flight to south to Krabi. We arrive to the beach town of Ao Nang (Krabi Province) where we check into our guest house to enjoy the stunning Karst scenery and white beaches. Our guesthouse is in Ao Nang, close to the beach and provides a perfect spot to mellow out and relax. Weather and time permitting, you can take a longtail boat out to some of the beautiful islands and snorkel the reefs that have made southern Thailand so famous.
