Mar 16, 2012 - Krabi
We had a difficult time deciding what to do this morning-- we knew we wanted to get to Krabi today (which involved a 30 minuted hike with our packs to Railay East and then a 14km long-tail boat ride) but we were also tempted by local opportunities, perhaps climbing again or renting sea kayaks. The "penis cave" was just a few beaches away and could have been an entertaining sight-- there are many different carvings and statues there, supposedly bringing fisherman luck. But we ultimately decided just to head to the long-tails, as departure...

Jan 15, 2012 - January 12-15: Krabi
On Thursday, Roslyn, Ella, Kasey and I took the overnight bus to Krabi. Before getting on the bus we decided to break our “no fruit” diet and get some mango with sticky rice. Not only was it delicious (the fruit was sweeter and much more tender than the mango at home), but it was also only $1. We left Bangkok at 7 pm and arrived in Krabi the next morning at 10 am. The bus was actually really comfortable and we were all able to sleep for a while. Even though it wasn't a restful sleep, I was able to sleep about 6 hours. We arrived in Krabi...

Dec 12, 2011 - Final Day in Krabi
Final Day in Krabi For our last day in Krabi we did a half day jungle tour. We and four other Dutch tourists took off in an open air truck bed/tour vehicle to the National Park about 30 minutes from our hotel. We drove through miles of jungle, passed pineapple, coconut, rubber plantation, and rural farming communities. Eventually we reached the Khao Phanombencha National Forrest. We had 1 hour and 45 minutes to explore its wonders, so we hiked up to the Seven Devas waterfall. The waterfall had seven tiers, each of which had its own pool...

Dec 10, 2011 - Day 1 in Krabi
Day 1 in Krabi In the wee hours of the morning we fled our hotel in Bangkok and took a flight on the lovely Asia Air to Krabi, a province in the middle/southern part of Thailand. We left the tiny Krabi airport and the first thing we saw was a landscape like something from Pandora (the moon that Avatar took place on). If Bangkok’s natural environment is a jungle, Krabi’s could be called a super-jungle. Everywhere you look plants seem to dominate every square inch of land. In the distance giant limestone towers and small mountains rise up...

Dec 10, 2011 - Day 2 in Krabi
Day 2 Krabi Our first full day exploring the coast off of Krabi! Peter and I decided to take advantage of a group tour package to 4 islands. We started out by snorkeling at a small island called Daeng Island, which was surrounded by reefs, where we saw lots of butterfly fish in addition to large schools of other fish. I saw some Moorish Idols, which I was hoping to see on this trip. After Daeng Island we headed to Hong Island lagoon which was surrounded in mangrove forests and filled with turquoise water. Next was Lading Island (aka...

Dec 7, 2011 - Hi Thailand!
Hi everyone, We spent 2 nights in Krabi and after arriving in Thailand. We stayed at a rock climbing place, Ton Sai, which was great for food and drink but the sea was too rocky for swimming. Arriving was interesting as we didnt really know where we were going and ended up follwing a young couple who were into climbing. When they said a fifteen minute climb over a few rocks we didnt realise what we were getting into. With 15kg bags on out back we made a practicle vertical climb for about 15 metres before a slightly less angled decent. A...

Nov 22, 2011 - Krabi Town Layover
We spent most of our half day in Bangkok sitting around in the sweltering heat in anxious anticipation to get on with things. After running about the markets and having very little luck finding knock off goods of any sort of quality we decided that sweating it out with the locals was for suckers so we retreating back to our hotel to do some reading and relaxation before flying off to Krabi. We will tell you this right now... if you are taller then 5'6 or heavier then about 210 pounds you may want to consider how much you really need to...

Nov 15, 2011 - All on my own ~ Phuket to Krabi
Left Vanessa n Abdeen in bed at the hotel to go downstairs n catch the van to the pier. Wasn't downstairs for 5 minutes before some older Thai dude came up n sat at the table w me. He told me I was big and he loved me. Hahaha these people are a hoot. He finally got up from my table n went back to sit at his, but then came back like 3 times. Guess he really does like him some big women! My van arrives and he made sure to say goodbye and wave me off. Random dude. Made it to the pier and onto the boat headed to Koh Phi Phi, with a connection...

Oct 13, 2011 - Malaysia and more Thailand
Hello again!! So, since my last entry I have finished up Singapore, been to Malaysia, and returned to Thailand. The last few days in Singapore were great-my friend Siok showed me around. We went to the beach and it was hard to leave because it was SO NICE to stay with people, in an actual home as opposed to a hostel. But I couldn't very well stay forever so I headed to Pulau Tioman, my first stop in Malaysia. I had high hopes for Malaysia-I had heard great things. Unfortunately, every trip has a not-so-awesome part and Malaysia was that...

Jun 12, 2011 - Same same but different part 1
So Thailand eh! We're now in the land of lions and elephants but should probably catch you guys up on our last month of adventures-hope you haven't been on the edge of your seat waiting :) We made it across the border into Thailand and jumped on what turned out to be an amazingly cushy bus to Krabi. It was the most colourfully decorated bus and after many an hour of what we're pretty sure was the same music video and awful Thai song we made it to krabi, jumped in a little truck taxi thing and then a longtail boat over to Hat Ton Soi and...
