Jan 3, 2013 - Undiscov... no. Now Discovered Koh Phi Phi
After saying our goodbyes to everyone and giving a couple of days to sort out the food poisoning, we headed to Koh Phi Phi. It’s as beautiful as I expected but far busier than I thought. Again the quiet island from the film is now party central and so very crazily developed since the tsunami during the mid-2000’s. But still it’s so incredible. It amazes me how even after seeing so many beautiful places, there is so much more to see. And Phi Phi is just that. Will and I ended up getting to the island late because the taxi driver didn't pick...

Jan 25, 2011 - Koh Phi Phi

Jun 10, 2010 - Koh Phi Phi

Apr 20, 2009 - The Night Ferry and the Stormy Sea
THE FERRY RIDE: Sometimes you take certain things that occur in the USA for granted. Take safety standards. Those of us in the Construction Industry sometimes get frustrated with the level of regulation we must endure. But after an 8 hour overnight ferry ride in stormy weather... I will never complain about regulations again. The sleeper ferry is another part of the "roughing it" saga. The ferry is two levels and on each level, there is an 18" wide aisle down the center of the ship. Of course there is no AC, so you open the windows and turn...

Sep 5, 2008 - Episode 18: The Beach
Whilst somewhat tired of th 'beach life', we were heading for another, the island of Koh Phi Phi. The journey consisted of a 3 hour boat trip to the main land, then a further 5 hour coach trip to Krabbi, an overnight stay here before the final boat to the island the following morning. Krabbi was a quiet town, where we spent the evening watching football in the irish bar. Koh Phi Phi is famed for its reef trips, diving and maya beach, the setting for the film THE BEACH. Previously devisated by the tsunami 4 years ago, the island still shows...

May 28, 2008 - Koh Phi Phi

Mar 16, 2008 - Thailand - Koh Phi Phi
Another marathon budget effort that left me feeling way too old for backpacking (overnight bus from Bangkok to Krabi, followed by not-so-well-connected boat) & we arrived in Koh Phi Phi, a picture postcard island that has been overrun by tourism. The main tourist village is overflowing with tour agencies, fake Billabong surf shops & farang restaurants & bars ... not to mention litter & some gut-wrenching sewerage odours. Kirra wanted to stay in the thick of all this, Balunn wanted to stay as far away as possible. We compromised and decided...
