Feb 19, 2009 - Ko Samui

I'm in love. This place is GORGEOUS! We got here by a 2 hour long mini van drive and then a 1.5 hour ferry ride and then a 20 minute ride in the back of a truck :S. We pulled up to Chewang Beach Resort and were immediately impressed- gold foil, pink paint and palm trees really did it for us. After checking into my room I raced down to the beach to catch the last hour and a bit of sunshine. The beach is glorious and there are great people watching opportunities. Within the first few minutes I saw a geeky looking blonde guy walking down the...

Dec 7, 2008 - Ko Samui

After a 5 hour bus ride and an hour and a half ferry, we arrived in the Gilf of Thailand on the island of Ko Samui. Still a bit under the weather from my stomach bug, I was hoping for a little more comfort than the other guesthouses. The place we stayed at was on the North East side of the island in Chawang, about 5 monutes walk from the beach. Holiday guesthouse was for sure an upgrade from our last stays! A tv, fridge, hot water(yes I have been taking cold showers the past few weeks) and they brought you breakfast to your room. Very...

Nov 25, 2008 - The Big Buddha!

No matter the fact that many of the roads were impassable, we had decided that we must make the effort to reach The Big Buddha. Now dressed in our super duper rain macs we headed out on the bikes to the North of the island where we would find The Big Buddha. It was rather a treacherous journey. With the main road closed and deviations in place it meant going down roads not familiar to Mike who knew the island. We managed it though and had the cleanest feet due to the flood water encroaching up the bikes. The Honda Klicks were doing their...

Nov 24, 2008 - Ko Samui and the storm arrives (the first of many).

During the night a storm had been raging around the wooden cabin so much so the window blew in! So, in the morning I was not surprised to see flood water all around the complex. Mike and Deer had already moved to a much more desirable place just across the road but I reckoned where I was would be fine especially as it was on the beach. Oh how wrong one can be! It wasn't long before Yo and I both headed to where the others were, a great idea it turned out as for an extra 300 baht a night we got a beautiful place beside a swimming pool. At...

Nov 1, 2008 - Ko Samui

Ko Samui is a little island off the South of mainland of Thailand, oh my god this beautiful island has got such clear water and white sandy beach... just stunning. Without wearing a snorkel or anything, water visibility is still so good, probably 20m or so. Our accommodation was located at Lamai beach, 10mins drive from main beach, but much nicer and quiter location. Our $50 a night room has a beach front pool with pool bar and restaurant, free wireless internet, breakfast included etc,,, it was just amazing and everyting was cheap. As you...

Oct 20, 2008 - The Gulf of Thailand - Koh Samui

“There are one hundred and ninety-three living species of monkeys and apes. One hundred and nine-two of them are covered with hair. The exception is a naked ape self-named HOMO SAPIENS” - Desmond Morris On the island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, south of Bangkok, there is a “monkey school.” At this school, monkeys are trained to climb high coconut palm trees, select ripe coconuts, pluck them from the trees, and then drop them down to the ground. These palm trees are in the neighborhood of 60 feet high, so utilizing monkeys for this...

Oct 20, 2008 - National Park Boat Safari etc

We had booked a boat trip into the National Park today so it was an early start. After about a 90 minute boat ride from Ko Samui we arrived at a beach on one of the many islands in the National Park. Please excuse the fact we have about a million photos of scenery but I don't really want to delete this off as our camera is playing up a bit as I think the SD card we are using/have used has got a virus which makes it unreadable. Annnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyyyway the islands/scenery in the National park is largely untouched and is really beautiful...

Oct 19, 2008 - Beach, Pool, Spurs

We headed on down to the beach for some brecko today. It was like perfect sand and crystal clear sea.......which we looked at while we ate!! We had a wander up/down the beach which was wicked but was quite busy and the tide was in so space was at a premium. Because of this we headed back to the space and safety of our mountain pool and splashed about until the sun set. We headed back into town tonight to get some authentic Thai food...............PIZZA HUT BABY!!! Come on man it's our first Pizza Hut in 3 months!! Then we hung in a bar to...

Oct 18, 2008 - Over to Koh Samui

We got a ferry over from Ko Phangan to Ko Samui at about lunchtime today. The full moon party was wicked and everything but the place is getting really Westenised so we weren't THAT sad to be leaving. Especially from the GBP 45.00 a night hut!!! Our hotel/bungalow in Ko Samui was ok but was on a hill about 2 minutes on a scooter out off the main strip of bars and stuff. Not a major problem except for the fact the pool (which looked really cool in the photos on t'internet) was up a path straight from Everest training camp!! (We worked out by...

The A&E Adventure

Jun 23, 2008 - Arriving in Ko Samui

After a 2 hour flight, we arrived in Ko (Island) Samui in the afternoon. Our resort was positively beautiful. It had beautiful palm trees and flowered trees everywhere. The main pool was huge with elephant fountains around the perimeter pouring water into the pool. At one end the water appeared to just run off the side. There were two other beautiful pools right next to the beach. We spent the day in the elephant pool which was filled with very lightly salted water instead of chlorine. At night we ate at the hotel as part of our "holiday...

May 23, 2008 - Koh sok National park+Ko Samui+ Ko Tao

Hey everyone!! Sorry I havent written in a while, I've just been in the most beautiful places and I didn't want to waste too much time on the internet. In Bangkok we met our new group, 2 people bigger than the last one! Our group leader is named Tik and she's really cool. Most of the people in our group are from England. 2 are from Ireland and 1 is from Austrailia. It is accent overload!!! So we got on the train and sadly no ladyboys sang to us on the way south. Also our table on the train wasnt working so it was really annoying!! Our...

May 1, 2008 - Ko Samui

GREETINGS. Let me just vent for a few sentences, and then I can get onto the positive. I can't be Miss Mary Sunshine all the time. My hotel here in Ko Samui sucks. I tried to be positive, but the bottom line is that it has been a horrible experience staying here. My room smelled like sewage, the mattress was unbearable, somehow there were mosquitos in an air conditioned room, the people working here were not helpful, construction started outside my window at 7 am sharp, and the hotel was right in the flight path of all the airplanes taking...
