May 10, 2009 - Paradise...and a little hung over
So, Andrew, Nina, John, Kelly and I decided to go to Ko-Chang. We only had a few days before I had to be back in Bangkok and Nina had a friend staying at some swanky hotel and he said he could get us a deal. Boy did he ever. Ko Chang is an island about 1 hr from Trat, where we were staying. It has beautiful beaches and a nice atmosphere. Since I am on a budget, even with the deal, I wasn't sure if I could afford to stay. It was $100 per night. The hotel normally costs $300 and up. It was right on the water, and the views were amazing. The...Jump to full entry
Jan 4, 2009 - Ko Chang(last stop in Thailand)
In Bangkok we went to our travel agency, Unseen Travel, to pick up our bus and ferry ticket to Ko Chang Island. The bus ride turned out to be about 6 hrs and in the middle broke down and the airconditioning was broken and was leaking water on people's backs and seats, including Jamies. He wasn't happy about that at all. Nice, sweaty bus ride with water dripping on you...can't get any better than that! When we arrived to Trat we got off the bus and onto the ferry. Arriving in Koh Chang we took a share taxi to The Orchid Resort and bungalows...Jump to full entry
Nov 2, 2008 - koh chang resort
Something a bit different, a Ko Chang resort on white sands beach, away from the noise and busy nightlife, all in all a great family resort on koh chang. We stayed in the newly renovated koh chang para resort, on white sands beach. We paid 3,500 baht for a ‘ family suite ‘ room with two double beds, cable tv, air con. The room was huge and had seperate shower, WC and sink rooms within an ensuite unit. This was great for my family as we could all use the facilities at the same time in the morning, which is normally a bit of a problem when...Jump to full entry
Oct 8, 2008 - Sorting stuff day and drinks & fire at night!!
Today we basically had to sort out leaving Ko Chang tomorrow (good job really as the price of our room doubles from tomorrow!!), did some laundry, explored on the moped some more, hung out on the beach, and funked about on the internet for a bit. In the evening we went and some had cocktails on the beach at the bar opposite to our place where they had a fire show and stuff. Mental!! I think they can get away with crazier moves over here as there aren't any health and safety laws!!! We left just before the end and went to bed with big smiles...Jump to full entry
There was a powercut today on the whole of the island from 9am-5pm so just like in the good old days - we had to make our own entertainment!! We went for some brecko on the beach but as there was no aircon or fans to cool you down (and also couldn't have our daily fruit shakes neither!) we didn't hang around in there and decided to go for a really long drive on the scooter to cool us down instead. The roads are crazyly hilly around Ko Chang and the scooter only just made some of them (especially when the van in front of us conked out while...Jump to full entry
Oct 5, 2008 - Celebrated finishing my PADI with a roast!
Up again at 8am today (I know you are feeling my pain!). It's been a long 4 days man!!! Out on the boat for my final 2 dives to become PADI Open water qualified. Ooooooooooooh!!! The dives were amazing again (it just felt like I was in a fish tank man!!!) and I passed everything I needed to do to get the qualification. To celebrate when we got back me and Em went down to Paddy's (Yes an Irish Pub!) as they do roast dinners on Sunday. Hopeful, but not overly confident, we both went for the chicken roast dinner..............and oh my sweet...Jump to full entry
Oct 4, 2008 - Scuba written exam and Klong Phlu Water Fall
I had to go to the Scuba shop this morning to do my PADI written test. That was A LOT of fun. Em was safely tucked up in bed while all this was going on, but when I returned 3 hours later she'd managed to get up, hose herself down, and was raring to go! So we headed on down the road to a waterfall, which was nice. We had a bit of a swim and then had a bit of a scoot around and then came back to White Sands for some din dins and a well deserved drinkypoos. Not too many mind as I have to finish my scuba-ering tomorrow. At 8 frickin AM! It was...Jump to full entry
Oct 3, 2008 - Scuba-ering & hanging out at White Sands...again!
I had to leave Em to fend for herself again today as I headed out on the boat today to do some reef scuba-ering in the sea. It was absolutely amazing. Beautiful weather, good visability, and about a million fish!! On Ko Chang itself the weather wasn't that great and Em pretty much just hung out again and sorted a few things out. Was knackered again this evening after 2 early starts (Christ knows what we're gonna be like when we have to go back to work again!!! Mehhhhh, we'll worry about that in 9 months time!!!). Had some more homework to...Jump to full entry
Oct 2, 2008 - Scuba-ering & hanging at White Sands
Today was an early start (for me anyway, I think Em finally got up at about 1pm!). I started a 3 day Scuba-ering course and Em just pretty much just hung out for the day. I did some classroom work and pool work today and got back to the room at about 5pm. We then went out for something to eat but headed back to the room early as we were both a bit badgered, and I had some frickin homework to do!!!! :)Jump to full entry
Oct 1, 2008 - Ko Chang - White Sands
We left the Tree House Lodge on Long Beach at about 8am today as it appears that is the only time transport leaves there every day!! We decided to get a taxi over to White Sands and stay there for the night as the ferry back to the main land is a lot closer to there than at Long Beach. Also Em wanted a bit of 'luxury' for the night after staying in 'the hut' the previous one. After walking in (and then swiftly walking out again!) of about 4 'nice looking' places that were GBP 25-30.00 a night (no chance!) we had a look in/above Buffalo...Jump to full entry
Sep 30, 2008 - Tree House Lodge on Long Beach
Today we got a taxi taxi for about 1.5 hours round to completely the other side of the island, in the middle of frickin nowhere, because we heard that Long Beach was meant to be beautiful. And so it was. As the beach is in the middle of no where it absolutely empty except for the people staying at the Tree House Lodge, which is the only place to stay anywhere near the beach. The place had an unbelievably chilled out vibe to it (it was like Glastonbury on tranquilisers!) and was cool and clean, but really basic. We stayed in a hut on the...Jump to full entry
