Apr 17, 2006 - To Koh Pha Ngan

17 April 06 - To Koh Pha Ngan I was looking forward to checking out the Sanctuary on Koh Pha Ngan (www.thesanctuarythailand.com)later today, particularly having met someone who had been there and recommended it. I was of course expecting it to attract a few 'alternative' people, to use a euphemism. Walked along the beach for a leisurely breakfast then back to check out of he resort. I went to the desk to find the manager having a lengthy conversation, during which time another two people arrived after me to check out also. I was peeved...

Apr 16, 2006 - Koh Phangan Island off Thailand (was supposed to be Chittabong)

Well destination was supposed to be Chittabong. Chittabong i hear you say? Well really this is a tale about the wonders of beer lao. We, we being myself, and two gingerbeers (engineers) from work, Mr Tony Moore and Mr Brenden Weekes were sitting around a pool in Luang Prabang drinking beer lao and contemplating nothing, and decided that we, being myself and Mr Weekes should head to chittabong in Bangladesh to watch the aussies play a riviting game of cricket in the 2nd test. So tickets booked, phone calls to chittabong hotels, contact...

Mar 19, 2006 - Koh Phan gan

We arrived in Koh Phan gan after a short boat ride from Koh Samui. THIS is the real deal. A real travellers haunt with full English breakfasts, decent coffee (hurrah!) and a great beach and nightlife. We were staying in a nice bungalow with a hammock out the front, which was fab for lazing doing nothing much, but have now upgraded to a slightly more ritzy bungalow with a fridge (this is real luxury) as well as air con, but no hammock :-( but sometimes you have to make sacrifices.... Today Ruth went diving off the reef while Tim nursed the...

Mar 12, 2006 - Koh Tao, Thailand

Finally - after a couple of months in the country, we have made it down to the islands - a place to tell you the truth we were avoiding lest we fall in love and blow the budget. BUT, after a couple of nights in a bungalow with sea views we have found a guesthouse that is cheaper than elsewhere in the country, has better beds than we have slept on in ages...

Feb 15, 2006 - Koh Phan Ngan

Got to Koh Phan Ngan one day late for the Valentine's Day/Full Moon Party which evidently had about 5000+ people on the one little island. Tales abounded of drunken shroomheads and passed out people being dragged by locals above the high tide line. Ran into Kyle, a kiwi I met on Koh Chang. He was feeling the afteraffects of the party as I found him 20 feet from shore (in the ocean) standing and bobbing with the waves. When I hailed him he greeted me in his rather distinct accent and told me "I doan know wot oim doin'out here. Oim loible to...

Feb 10, 2006 - Koh Phangan

Update by JT: We are now in Koh Phangan which is an Island off of Ko Samui the place we were before. Koh Samui was primarily the kick boxing island and this one is mostly the party island. All you do here is sleep and tan during the day and at night you just party till the break of dawn. At night you survive on "buckets" which are whisky, red bull, coke, lime and ice. They get you very alert and energized and keep you up all night. I may add pictures to site here but it is very expensive to use the internet here so I will probably wait for...

Jan 26, 2006 - Kho Phagnan

I had a relaxed morning reading and packing my bag, waiting for lunchtime and my ticket out of here! 12 o'clock came and I got on the boat - which turned out to be a pretty small speed boat. It was a hair raising trip over as the sea was quite rough from the recent bad weather, and the boat kept jumping up them slamming down on the water with a crunch! I sat out in the front and there was a little German boy next to me who was absolutely loving it! Very cute. Anyway, I made it to Haad Rin in one piece and attempted to find Coral Bungalows...

Oct 16, 2005 - Koh Pha Ngan/Pattaya/Bangkok

Hello All!! So after Ko Samui we left for the island of Koh Pha Ngan. On our way over we met a few other travelers: 3 guys from Los Angeles and a girl from Israel. Turns out that Koh Pha Ngan is a huge backpacker party island with nothing to do besides hang out on the beach during the day and party like a rock star at night. Needless to say the 7 of us fell quite comfortably into the island routine. In between the blur of memories we did have a few productive days. We spent an afternoon on a taxi boat/long boat touring the island, stopping...

Sep 15, 2005 - Khaosan-on-Sea

Well, I'm stuck on Ko Pagnan still. We wanted to go to Ko Tao which is smaller and quieter, and has really good diving, but the weather was really bad for a few days so there weren't any boats going over there. We did go to a really nice beach called Bottle Beach in the North of the island. I prefered Thong Nai Paan though - it was prettier, and had more to do. Bottle Beach is really beautiful, but it's also extremely isolated, and it was pretty stormy most of the time we were there, so there wasn't a lot we could do other than read and...

May 5, 2005 - Beautiful Thai Beaches

We just spent the past week on the islands of the eastern coast of southern Thailand. Yesterday we took a boat out to Ang Thang National Marine Park and kayaked along the sea cliffs of the beautiful islands, through some sea caves, and over to a beach where we snorkled among fishes and coral. We also hiked up to the center of the island to see the brilliant green Emerald Lake. A really great day, and we got quite tan. The other days were spent relaxing on the beaches of Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Samui. Our favorite was a beach at Hat Whyanam...
