Dec 2, 2012 - Ao Nang
I suspect we’ve upset the God of good timing. Once again, the best laid of plans.....booked and confirmed Yu Bungalows (where we stayed last year – fantastic little houses surrounded by jungle but only minutes from the action) for 3 weeks of much needed rest. Arrived to find Yu (the owner) trying to explain, in broken English, that: a) the whole place had been booked by Thai teachers who were staying for 3 months; and/or b) the rain had washed half the bungalows away; and/or c) her son had left for the army, therefore there was no one to...

Feb 12, 2012 - Snorkelling at Night
Tamara, would you like to go swimming in water over your head in seculded caves and tunnels? Ummmm, no thanks. Tamara, would you like to go swimming at night in far off secluded places? Ummmm, no thanks. Tamara, would you like to go swimming with sharks and other scary underwater animals? Ummmm, no way! Yeah, all of those things kind of freak me out. So what did I do last night? I went swimming in water over my head in far off seculded tunnels and caves with sharks. AHHHHHH!!!! The promise of seeing phosphorescent waters made me throw all...

Feb 7, 2012 - It's getting hot!
Even though I've been here for less than a week this country is bringing up so many memories from trips past. The decor, the music, and the smells remind me of the good things in India. The pop culture reminds me of the life I left behind in Japan. The sunshine beating down on my shoulders reminds me of the wonderful time I had on the French Riviera. And of course, the beautiful tropical waters take me back to another life and time spent in the caribbean. Thailand feels like the crossroads of all cultures and countries mixed...

Jan 18, 2012 - Yangon/Bangkok/Ao Nang
Spent over a week in Bangkok doing the usual. After 28 days without reliable internet access, we had a bit to catch up on. Have found a nice hotel, New Siam, and at $19pn a real bargain. Christmas day we treated ourselves to an all-you-can-eat Japanese buffet - stuffed ourselves stupid with mountains of sushi and Tom Yam soup to which you add your favourite ingredients. Waddled out and went to the movies. Nice day. Have been in Ao Nang ever since. Wow, 3 weeks in the same place!! Staying at Yu Bungalows just off the main street, best room...

Jan 5, 2011 - Ao Nang

Dec 12, 2010 - Ao Nang
Ao Nang was amazing!!! This is the town with DJs uncle peter and girl friend, Pi Ome. The first day we woke up to sunny skies and had coffee at "the last cafe" on the beach. This is where I saw my first monkeys!!! They are very playful and miscivious, as they will take your things when you set them down... spent some time warming my bones on the beach and had a interesting dinner. For dinner we went to a local buffet, similar but different. For those of you who know how picky of an eatter I am I almost stood there crying with am empty...

Oct 17, 2010 - Ao Nang
Been here for 12 days, something of a record for us. Would love to say we've been exploring, climbing mountains, forging streams etc but we haven't. Basically it's been sleeping, eating, walking, swimming, drinking and having massages. Amazing how your sleep period can lengthen when you don't have to get up. We can easily sleep 11 hours straight - bloody wonderful. We've got quite used to the very loud music downstairs, even humming along to "Y-M-C-A" and "I will survive"!! Low season, apart from cheap rooms, also means monsoons. It's...

Nov 16, 2009 - Elephant treking
I went on the elephant trek and white water rafting trip yesterday. It was a lot of fun, the rapids were only class 2 or 2.5 but the guides added a lot to the trip. I was not able to get pictures of the rafting but did get some of me on the elephant. It was about a 2 hour trip to get the the national park where the river and elephants are kept. It made a long day and I was beat when I got back. today was the first time I decided that I needed western food, I found a Subway. It was not like back home but It was OK and the first non-thai food...

Nov 15, 2009 - Ao Nang & Phi Phi
Well I must say Ao Nang is a little more lively than Krabi, although the food is better in Krabi. My first day in Ao Nang I rented a motorbike and road to the Panom Benja National Park and went on a hike in the jungle. I went up to the Hua To Waterfall. I have to say it's HOT in the jungle. I came a cross a snake and got a few pictures of it. As is the custom around here it often rains for about an hour in the afternoon, and sure enough, I got caught in it. No worries you dry off fast. Yesterday, I went on a dive trip to Phi Phi Island. I...

Nov 14, 2009 - Four Island Trip, Krabi
Today, we took a Longboat trip to visit four different islands, each absolutely beautiful, with soft white sand and palm trees. The main attraction of the trip was that we were taken to four different snorkelling locations, each completely mindblowing in a different way. The first two locations involved snorkelling from the beach, at the first (Poda Island), even when we were just up to our knees in the water, we were surrounded by a shoal of yellow/white/black fish - hundreds of them - it was surreal. The second location, Chicken Island,...
