Nov 10, 2013 - Nungwi, Zanzibar

Nov 1 Packing was now a routine for us but since we had spread ourselves out, we needed to make sure that we didn't leave anything behind. Unknown to us, our arrival at the breakfast buffet was being monitored since there was a special treat awaiting. Abdulrahim made good on his promise of providing us with homemade mandaazi, vitumboa and chilla... all three being deliciously sweet and oily breakfast treats. We also made the connection between Victoria fruit (juice which Blanche treated us to at Louis Yoghurt Parlour) and bungo juice in the...

African Safari 2013

Dec 16, 2012 - Findet Nemo

Dec 15, 2012 - Sonne, Strand, Meer

Oct 21, 2010 - Zanzibar | Vrije dag Nungwi

Regen?

Citroengras, vanille, kokosnoot, jackfruit, passievrucht, ananas, peper, banaan, koffie, sterfruit, kaneel, noot muskaat, gember, maniok,... Je vindt het er...

Feb 16, 2009 - Diving Zanzibar - Day 2

9 o'clock in the evening. I am sitting at a local outdoor restaurant next to the beach writing today's entry. Another near perfect day - in spite of the heat - , other than the fact that it is my last night here in Nungwi, as I am heading to Stone Town tomorrow. I'm not happy about that, but my schedule doesn't allow for any more time here in Nungwi. Today I did two dives, again with the dive outfit Spanish Dancer Divers. Unlike yesterday's ride, today's boat ride to our dive sites entailed only about a 20 minute boat ride from Nungwi. We...

Feb 15, 2009 - Diving Zanzibar - Day 1

It is late afternoon, and i'm sitting in the shade here at Jambo Brothers. It is absolutely beautiful here. Very hot out, but beautiful nevertheless... Today was my first day of diving in Zanzibar. I went on 2 dives with the dive outfit Spanish Dancer Divers. We made both of the dives at the Mnemba Atoll, the location where I had gone snorkeling yesterday. However, today's dives took place on the other side of Mnemba Island than the spot where I had snorkeled yesterday. The first dive took place at a dive site known as Kichwani, and the...

Feb 14, 2009 - Snorkeling Zanzibar

It is about 7:30 at night, and i'm sitting in the common area here at Jambo Brothers on the beach here in Nungwi. A gentle breeze is blowing, giving some respite from the humidity. Now that the sun has set, the oppressive heat has subsided as well. A good point for me to quickly summarize today's events... After waking up early this morning and eating a quick breakfast, I booked a snorkeling trip from my hotel to the Mnemba Atoll, which sits atop a coral reef (excursion including lunch US$20). I joined up with my group at 9 a.m. at a nearby...

Break From the Law

Feb 13, 2009 - Journey to Zanzibar

The taxi picked me up from my hotel at shortly before 2 o'clock in the morning to drive me to Addis's international airport to catch a 4 a.m. flight to Nairobi, where I would subsequently catch a connecting flight to Dar es Salaam on the Tanzanian coast. After my arrival at the airport and subsequent check-in, I changed all of remaining Ethiopian Birr into USD. Ethiopia has currency controls in effect. As a result, a black market inevitably exists to change Birr into USD at more favorable exchange rates. At the government exchange booth,...
