Feb 5, 2012 - Day 20 - Bukoba...when Saba met Zahra by Saba

Today we went and saw our sponsor child from world vision her name is Zahra. They welcomed us with a song her whole neighborhood and friends were there. Zahra gave me some flowers she picked then from her village herself. After that Zahra took me inside I gave Zahra her presents we gave her rulers, rubbers, sharpeners and pencils. Zahra and her friends did a hula girl dance I even got up and danced. We had a huge feast of chapati, sweet potato, nuts, cassava and durian. Zahra gave me a real rabbit my mum and dad said I couldn't keep it so...

Feb 4, 2012 - Day 19 - Bukoba...5 African Hornes become 6

Having met the World Vision staff the previous afternoon, we arranged to meet this morning at the Bukoba office at 9am to go out to the village where our sponsor child Zahra lives. We have sponsored Zahra since she was four and now she is 13. Her village Katerero is some 20km out of Bukoba and while distance wise this isn't far, it may as well be one thousand kilometers from town such is the difference between town and rural life. Feb 3, 2012 - Day 18 - Mwanza to Bukoba..can I have 5 new discs for my back please

As discussed in previous entries, it's no good asking anyone how long it takes to get from A to B. We had been asking around how long it would take to get from Mwanza to Bukoba and estimates varied between 7 hours and two days. Ever the optimists we thought we'd do it in 8 as rumor had it the roads were tarmac the whole way. Leaving Tunza lodge at 6.15am we headed through Mwanza and enjoyed watching the streets wake up. By 7.30 we reached the car ferry that would take us across a small stretch of the lake and happened to be the last car...
