Oct 24, 2010 - Roman Ruins and Crusader Castle

We visited Palmyra site after an early breakfast. It is extensive, with thousands of beautifully decorated columns – each of which would have had a statue on it. We have seen it all on this rally, but surprisingly we are not exhausted of ancient ruins and the stunning setting of Palmyra makes it very memorable. Our guide to the (Pagan) Temple of Bel was excellent and had us lying on our backs under a propped up piece of carved lintel to see fine carving and painting in the original 2000 year old colour. Rallye Med 2010

Mar 31, 2006 - Lattakia

This is Syria's largest port town and also its most relaxed and cosmo. There is not a lot to do here,but that is just what i need. there is a really well preserved crusader castle north of thown called Qala'at Salah Ad-Din. It was originaly bizontine,but was reenforced by the crusaders.

Apr 1, 2005 - Lattakia

We had decided to leave the day before but the vote was taken and majority wished to stay another day in Aleppo...we exchanged our tickets for this day to leave at 750 but surprise, we got there and due to the start of daylight savings we missed it...the people at the station we very accomodating and got us seats on the 330 train so Todd went back to the hotel and slept, I stayed at the station and read, and the rest went to see monestary at St.Simeon. Train left at exact time and we arr in Lattakia after a great trip thru mtns. and...
