12/ 21/08 Crossing into Syria posed little problems; in Bosra we had our first go at sleeping in a big cozy room with mats and pillows on the floor, like a big slumber party. For a tiny town, Bosra was quite a pleasant surprise, boasting a very well preserved Roman colloseum inside a fortress and surrounded by an entire city of Roman ruins (columns, bathhouses, alleyways, etc.). Mar 20, 2005 - Bosra, Syria

Crossed the border today...to this old (2000+ yrs.) city and site of great ruins, second only to Petra in terms of its importance to the developing trade routes thru the mid-east. We celebrated Todd's B-day here in the remains of an old castle, sleeping on the floor and looking up at beautiful stone arches! A Syrian man(father of fellow who owns the O.N. establishment next door) came in while we were cutting cake and joined us. He later returned and gave both Todd & Jake a traditional male costume/cloth dress outfit, which they enjoyed...
