Aug 10, 2016 - Zug

We had rain on the Tuesday. The weather had improved but not great on the Wednesday but we decided we would explore Lake Zug and the town of Zug. Zug appears like many other Swiss towns; however, this is the richest city in one of the world’s richest countries. Around the lake it was heavily populated. The town of Zug had a well preserved medieval old town, the water front square housed an aviary of exotic birds and yes it had a mountain behind but it was not the weather to go up in the hills. The weather decided to close in on us so we...

May 26, 2015 - Day 17 - Zug pack up

DON'T FORGET - you can change YOUR MAP view any time by selecting a different map from the list under the displayed map Day 17 - Tuesday 26th May - Zug pack up It’s still raining this morning but looks promising for a bit of clearing. Today is our last day in Zug. No plans had been made - just want to enjoy each others company. Looking down at the clean up of the events area below makes me feel sorry for the poor guys trying to pick up sodden sand off the 1m square pavers. They are using a small bobcat, a front end loader and a tractor...

May 23, 2015 - Day 14 - Zug

Day 14 - Saturday 23rd May - Zug Day has turned out to be overcast all day again. Late morning, G’pa and G’ma took Brenna out for a walk to give Mum and Dad a break. Late in the afternoon we did the same again - going over to watch the horses in the warm up area and the horses in competition over the jumps. It’s been a quiet day at home, and at night we all watched the Lion King - some saw more of it than others!!!!

May 22, 2015 - Day 13 - Zug

Day 13 - Friday 22nd May - Zug Below our 14th Floor ‘eagles nest’ position we can see down to the small Sheren Arena where they have been setting up all this week for a horse jumping competition. The squarish centre (grass) was covered with plastic followed by matting and then about 150mm of a sand mixture containing what looks like feathers/down. The sand has been groomed over the last few days by wetting, scraping and brooming to get a surface just right for the horses. Yesterday they set up fences, trees, shade umbrellas (????? why,...

May 20, 2015 - Day 11 - Wet Zug

Day 11 - Wednesday 20th May - Wet Zug Fully clouded over, cold (about 8 deg outside and raining. The mountains have disappeared from view and we are feeling grateful for the perfect day on Monday. We could even see a dusting of snow on Mt Rigi so it must have been cold last night outside. The forecast for Rigi today was 3deg with heavy snow and at times when the cloud has thinned we can see the snow that wasn't there on Monday. Brett is back at work today so we have had a quiet day playing with Brenna and watching Monsters University. Brett...

May 19, 2015 - Day 10 - Zug - Brett's birthday

Day 10 - Tuesday 19th May - Zug - Brett’s birthday Everyone slept in today, it was a huge contrast in weather to yesterday. Cloudy and cold with a bit of drizzle on and off. Today Brett has taken a day off so we can celebrate his birthday together - Jan thinks it must be about 13 yrs since we celebrated his birthday with him, very exciting. Brett has chosen Cha Cha for lunch so we all walked downtown. The stroller put Chloe to sleep and she slept through most of the meal. Cha Cha is a very nice fast turn around Thai restaurant which we...

May 17, 2015 - Day 8 - in Zug

Day 8 - SUNDAY 17th May - in Zug Slow start. Played with the kids in the morning. Brenna again hopped on the bed with Grandma and started to learn “little pig, little pig, let me come in”. We headed out for a lunch treat at the nearby Hafen Restaurant (meaning Harbour) for early lunch (11:30). We can see it from the Uptown building 14th floor but we see mainly the roof which is grass and flowering plants. So many of the flat roof buildings have soil roofs - it must have good insulation properties. We sat outside and watched the boats going...

May 15, 2015 - Day 6 - in Zug

Day 6 - Friday 15th May - in Zug Wow, what a change. At 7:15 when we woke it’s very grey outside and there has been a shower during the night. The rain continued right through the day, but with windows all round, it doesn’t feel cooped up even though we don’t intend going out. The alps have disappeared in the mist. After lunch Brett and Lindsay picked up some groceries. I think they like the ability to go out together and leave the kids with the grandies. Then after lunch Lindsay took Abby for a walk/run outside. She was wishing she had...

May 14, 2015 - Day 5 - in Zug

Day 5 - Thursday 14th May - Zug Today has dawned sunny warm and clear. The view to the southern alps is incredible and because today is a public holiday (Ascension Day) the lake has lots of sailing boats and para- surfers on the water. The Canton of Zug is a predominantly Catholic state so observes many of the Catholic days as holidays. The day heated up significantly and when we headed out for a walk to see the cows at the farms. It was hot enough that Abby (little Yorkshire Terrier) had to have water a few times on the walk. It was still...

May 13, 2015 - Day 4 - Zurich, Zug

Day 4 - Wednesday 13th May - Zurich, Zug Breakfast was a bit early today 6:00am. Ah well, we had been awake since about 4:30 anyway. We were seated in the centre section of the plane so saw nothing of the Zurich approach. Weather was fine but cloudy with a late storm expected at Zug. Brett drove from Zug on his own to pick us up - first class service. And the greeting when we walked in the door was first class too. The rest of the morning was spent getting to know the girls and constantly pinching ourselves, saying, “are we really here?”...
