Jul 22, 2018 - Saas Fee

22 July 2018 A quiet Sunday morning in Saas Fee. A lovely late morning walk through the forest to Bodmen where we enjoyed lunch. It still looks the same as six years ago, with a variety of animals in residence. The morning breeze was a bit fresh, but it was lovely sitting on the balcony and chatting. Took a different path back to Saas Fee and watched tobogganers zooming down the summer track under the bridge as we crossed over. Crossed the gorge again, and found the seat where we sat in the snow last time. Quite different in summer. Back...

Jul 21, 2018 - Saas Fee

21 July 2018 Woke to a very foggy morning after a thunderstorm during the night which closed Geneva airport. The thunder is certainly different to home as it echoes through the mountains. Marcel, Trudie & Don went down town for some supplies & Pam stayed behind to catch up on some mail etc. After a coffee, we set off for a walk around Saas Fee and enjoyed lunch at the Tea Room Sporting. The day has been quite cool with plenty of fog and low cloud. A quiet afternoon at Grossus Mos followed by some home made soup for dinner, and a game of...

Jul 20, 2018 - Sestri Levante to Saas Fee

20 July 2018 Time to head back to Saas Fee. The hotel prepared four breakfast boxes for us and we set off by 7.30am for the walk to the station for the 8.12am train to Milano. The morning was rather overcast and made for a cooler walk with our luggage. The train arrived on time, so that was a good start for us! Milano railway station is a nightmare, people everywhere all pushing and shoving. Marcel checked with one railway lady and she sent us to the wrong platform. After we had walked down a long way to our supposed carriage, we realised...

Jul 14, 2018 - Saas Fee

14 July 2018 Rest day in Saas Fee. Marcel had his early morning walk, then we had a leisurely late breakfast. Had a walk down town late in the morning for some supplies from Migros. Not many people around as most shops were closed in the middle of the day. The afternoon would see a lot more people around. Back at the apartment for a late lunch and then Heinz & Monica visited from another apartment. Lots of chatter and laughs. Managed a few games of cards today, and must admit that the men came out in front most of the time! Also did the...

Jul 13, 2018 - Saas Fee

13 July 2018 A big and very enjoyable day out. Had originally planned to go to Jungfraujoch, but after chatting with Marcel, we changed plans for the day. The decision turned out to be the right one as Jungfraujoch was covered in cloud for most of the day. Left Saas Fee on the bus and caught the train to Visp, changed trains to Spiez, next train to Interlaken, next train to Brienz where we caught the steam rack railway to Brienzer Rothorn, 2244m above sea level. A very slow climb (about one hour) by specialised steam powered loco with...

Jul 12, 2018 - Saas Fee

12 July 2018 A good night's sleep for everyone, Marcel up early and had breakfast ready for the rest of us. A leisurely time together and then we set out for a walk around the village. We are getting used to the altitude gradually, and found our walking sticks a big help. We are enjoying the weather here, and not missing the sand storms of the last few days. It was a lovely walk up into the forest, using part of the track where Trudie, Lorraine and Pam tobogganed down the slopes back in 2012! What a difference between winter and...

Jul 11, 2018 - Dubai to Saas Fee

11 July 2018 Moving on day from Dubai to Switzerland. Up early to be organised for our pickup at 5.40am who actually arrived at 5.15am, so we were at the airport very early. Hassle free check in and also customs, and for once there was no checking for explosives. Must only look like a "suspect" in Australia. Dubai airport was just as busy, but we were able to board from inside the terminal this time! A little late pulling out as we had to wait for our "tow" vehicle. Was a long way to the runway, and eventually got our turn at 9.20am for...

Jul 19, 2016 - Over the Grimsell Pass and then to Saas-Fee

Today we headed over the Grimsell Pass. This time there no fog and the views of both the man-made lakes and mountains were excellent. It surprised us how much we hadn’t seen on our first drive across the pass. When we got to Gletsch this time we went right towards Brig. We stopped at Eggishorn and debated whether we went up to the Aletschgletscher -the glacier but neither of us were in the mood and it was expensive to go up. We continued along the road past Brigg and then to Visp and decided we would explore the road up to Saas-Fee. We...
