Day 11 - 25 Sep Another day, another change of plan! Before we left Australia, we had planned to take a train down to Filisur on this day, from where it is possible to hike to spots that provide great views of the trains passing over the famous Landwasser Viaduct - the site of some of the most iconic images of Switzerland and its trains. As it turned out, our stroll around town made us aware of how much this area has to offer so, not for the first time, we changed our plans completely. Sep 30, 2016 - On The Bernina Express - sort of

Day 10 - 24 Sep Hotel breakfast this morning and we met our first group of Aussies. They had been to some of the places we are going to, so it was good to get some current info. They were also about to go on to Lake Como in Italy, for a return visit, and it sounds really good. - maybe a future visit for us... After brekkie, we geared up and set off for the 180 steps - up - to the train station. Strangely, it didn't take any longer going up today than down yesterday - perhaps we were more rested? Or maybe we kept stopping for pictures on the...

Jul 29, 2007 - Pontresina

Today I left the tropical heat of Lake Lugano for the cool, crisp mountain air once more. I took a scenic bus ride called the 'Palm Express' which connects Lugano with St. Moritz, traveling through Italy along Lake Como and up into the Alps. It was a nice ride through some pretty scenery. I have to say that I am glad to escape the heat and be up in the cool mountain air once more. I am staying in Pontresina, which is in a beautiful area called the upper Engadin, in the provence (or canton, as they are called in Switzerland), of Graubunden....
