Finished packing the last things, had breakfast at 7:30, said our good-byes and was in a taxi by 9:15, headed for the Basal SBB train station (there are 3 stations!). It started raining on the 20 min. drive. Our driver graciously showed us which door to use and even took us to the ticket office where we spent 35 min. and 468 Swiss Franks getting our October train reservations made. We then took 2 trains to our destination – the little walled city of Murten [Moorton]. Our Rick Steves-recommended hotel was close enough to the train station...

I took off from Montreux this morning under more clouded skies—what the British would call ‘bright’. The clouds were high and there were occasional patches of blue. My first stop was in Bulle, as it was market day, and I hadn’t been to one for a few days! I enjoyed it because it was totally a small town market with no tourist pretentions. France Road Trip

Jul 21, 2007 - Murten - on my own

Today I arrived in Murten and began researching on my own. Its a small, medieval city, with most of the town wall still intact. Its a good place to start out on my own as its pretty small and there aren't a whole lot of listings in this chapter. I made a list of the tasks I had to do, then set off to work. It will take me a some time to get a system down so I am more efficient. For instance, I went to the Tourist Information office to gather the usual info, only to realize I didn't have my phone card with me to follow up on some details, so...
