We draw along side my connection which is exactly the same rain I got off at Bellizona , and we have caught it up, I get in the same observation car and same seat for the journey round the lakes to Luzern. I was interested to see how this place had changed, it's been many years since I was last heard and then the station was being rebuilt I recall. What a transformation! The terminal platforms remain the same, but the station concourse has gone replaced with a 'rail city' shopping mall. Walking into the city the famous bridge over the...

Feb 26, 2012 - Luzern
We are now in Luzern, getting here was a bit of a trial, largely thanks to me and my confusion over the said destination or poor sense of direction as G puts it! As there are actually 5 different languages spoken here,(French, french-German, Swiss, Italian and Latin) one can be forgiven. The town itself can be known as Lucern, Luzern ooooor , lucerne, all of which I thought also sounded like Lausanne, which in fact is an entire different place , in an entire different location. The end result was me shouting at the Sat Nav and the driver...

We started our day off with a cruise on the beautiful lake Lucerne, in which you were able to see very large homes and castle's, it gave you a very different view of the city and it's many bays and the panoramic landscapes, made good use of the panoramic setting on my camera. We headed up Mt Titlis, this takes about 45 mins to get up to the top, on four different gondla's and cable car's including the worlds first revolving cable car. We went up 3048 metres and you have a 360 degree view, and what a view, even though it is summer it was...

May 22, 2011 - Luzern - May 20-22
May 20-22, 2011 Luzern, Switzerland This weekend we were heading to Luzern. It was Elizabeth’s birthday on the Friday so we decided to head to Luzern straight after work and go out for dinner. The train was only just over an hour and we were soon at the hotel, narrowly avoiding the rain which started as we reached our accommodation. Thankfully we had a bit of a wait until we had to go out for dinner and by the time we left the rain had stopped. I had made reservations for dinner but had not told Elizabeth where so when we reached the...

Dec 31, 2010 - Year's end in Luzern
After another slow start (hey, we’re on holiday!) we breakfasted in the hotel and then headed for central Luzern. First stop was the internet café to post yesterday’s account and we then spent some time checking out the clothes shops in the terminus mall. Zoë picked up some nice jeans and we then started our walking tour of the city. We made for the famous Lion Statue, which is a memorial to the Swiss mercenaries who died in the French Revolution. It is a very moving carving of a dying lion reposed in a grotto – all carved in one piece in...

Dec 30, 2010 - Sesto - Luzern
Another leisurely start was followed by another breakfast at the café – brioche and cappuccino. We then got stuck into preparations for our road trip. Dishes were washed, last minute laundry was completed, recycling was put out and the bags were packed. By midday we were on the road, the Citroen feeling the load but handling it well. Unfortunately, Barb has had a chest cough the last few days which has now developed into a cold. Hope she doesn’t spoil the trip by coughing and sneezing all the way. Almost the entire trip to Luzern was...

Dec 5, 2010 - Off to Lucerne
Heading up to Switzerland today. Lucerne will be our new home (http://www.luzern.com/en/welcome.cfm). Key words for today are MOUNTAINS, SNOW, COLD, and MORE MOUNTAINS. The weather looks like being kind to us as we head out - overcast and cold (3 degrees) but no rain or snow. As we thread our way out of Como we say goodbye to Italy. Must say that it was everything we hoped for. Great sights to see, wonderful food to sample, charming old villages/towns to visit. Before we know it, we are at the border crossing into Switzerland - a little...

Jul 18, 2010 - D-e-o-d-o-r-a-n-t
I was disappointed this morning to discover the sun was back out. We had a miserable (weather) and quite unproductive day yesterday it would have been nice to spend one more day in Luzern, but at AU$40 a night for a 20 bed dorm it was time to move on. We got ready, said our goodbyes and were on our way once again. The train left at 11:00am and we spent the last of our Swiss money on two bottles of coke. Feeling sick and tired I slept the train ride away. I woke not long before Geneva where we had to change trains. We went through a...

Jul 17, 2010 - I dressed in my swimmers
We woke up at the same time as yesterday had breakfast and got ready, we were going to spend the day exploring Luzern. I was hopeful after the storm last night that the clouds would clear and I would get to go swimming. I dressed in my swimmers and a summer dress. We made our way to the bus stop, our first stop for the day was finding free wifi. We sat in Mc Donalds for hours using their wifi and not purchasing anything. We booked our accommodation in Lyon (our next stop) as well as our next few stops in the South of France and Spain. After...

Jul 28, 2009 - Luzern, Switzerland
We left for Luzern after a relaxed "Canadian" start - to Nicole's chagrin. Now affectionately known as "late Canadian time..." We drove for about 1.5 hours through "Felix's Tunnel" (Nicole's dad is head of Zurich municipality civil engineering dept. and consequently organizes the building of tunnels etc.) It was spankin new 4.8 km tunnel with all the bells and whistles that opened in April 2009. It took 25 years to finish - from conception to completion. I know you are thinking that the Swiss unions have obviously surpassed our...
