Oct 10, 2013 - Day 11 Uppsala

We came to Uppsala to meet Sofia, a friend that we met while bicycling from Canada to Mexico a year ago. She has classes until 4 PM so until then we did some exploring in the city. There was a light drizzle so we decided to start with the Uppsala Cathedral and the Museum Gustavianum. The Cathedral, started in 1275 A.D. and completed in 1435 A.D., is the largest cathedral in northern Europe and was probably the largest cathedral we have ever visited. It was both grand and impressive. The museum building was built as part of the Uppsala...

Oct 9, 2013 - Day 10 Uppsala

We left Oslo at 10am and would not arrive in Uppsala until evening. The train ride was slow but provided some spectacular views. The rivers we followed were beautiful and the hills were similar to that of the Smokey Mountains. We had a sunny day which made the fall colors especially beautiful. Our timing for fall colors is perfect, very cool! The towns that we passed through we're larger than we expected, like Fremont MI, but little development in between. Surprisingly, most of the lakes and rivers have no homes along their shores. When we...

May 24, 2012 - Uppsala, Sweden - Day 16

Today we started our day with a 45 minute train ride to Uppsala and had a nice stroll through the university where we met up with Dr. Cecilia Bernstein, a social pharmacist that works with the Medical Products Agency which is similar to the FDA. Cecilia gave us a nice overview of Swedish pharmacy and her research. Some interesting facts: 1. Swedish healthcare is that everyone is insured for health and dental coverage. 2. There was a re/de regulation of the Swedish pharmacy in 2009 and since then the aim has been to increase the...

Feb 8, 2012 - Uni, bugs, Aus day & a rickshaw

Hello!! So think this is where I am up to… Uni started this week, but their system is so weird! I have 4 subjects over here but they do not run over a whole semester, just anywhere from like 4 to 9 weeks. So at the minute I have one subject- it is a whole 1hr 45 mins long & we get at least 10-15 mins break in the middle for a coffee break & we just have to write one assignment- the exam is discussing our papers with each other. Seems way too cruisey so far, I am just waiting for the catch but anyway. We have a heap of papers “to read -or...

Anyway got to Uppsala after about 35 hours of planes and airports as had a stopover in Dubai and then Copenhagen for a few hours and got a train from Stockholm to Uppsala. Met my buddy the uni organised,...

May 9, 2009 - Uppsala, Sweden

On the spur of the moment or nearly I decided to fly to Sweden from New York! There are some very cheap airfares at the moment. I have quite a few friends in Sweden because of sailing on Jennifer for the last two northern summers so decided it would be fun. The contrast with the Caribbean is stark and makes it even more enjoyable. It is spring and the weather is beautiful. The green is so intense and the days are already long. Uppsala is quite close to Stockholm airport so Hella picked me up and I stayed the weekend with her. Our friend...

Jul 28, 2008 - Trip to Sweden

Hello, Well I am back from my trip to Sweden and packing now for my trip to Greece in 2 days. I am exhausted but not complaining! The trip was great...good weather, nice people and I got to hear a new language which was interesting. We left Switzerland 6pm on Thurs and drove till 1:30am and grabbed a hotel off the autobahn in Gottingen, Germany. After a short sleep and a buffet breakfast, we took to the road again. We took a 45min ferry from Germany to Denmark which was cool. I am a bit unsteady on boats it seems. lol. All throughout...

Jun 8, 2006 - Uppsala

Uppsala was our final stop en-route to Stockholm to pick up Phil's Mum & Dad. The town focus is the university which is Scandinavia's oldest & we just happened to be there at Graduation time (so we figured out). Graduation involves hundreds of teenagers drinking from the early hours of the morning & hanging out of the back of big trucks (or anything that moves) and being driven around town for the entire day singing & cheering. Each was holding a placard of a photo of a young child, which we assumed was their first school photo and everyone...

Sep 7, 2005 - Canada vs. Sweden

I had another marathon train trip today, this time to Uppsala, Sweden. Once again my book was my salvation. I arrived at the station to meet Mira and Robert, two people that I studied with at Macquarie University in Australia 2 years ago. It was so great so see them again and reminisce about all our crazy adventures in Sydney. The international students there were quite close, so we spent a lot of time together. They live in a large student area just outside the city and had come in with their bikes, which everyone drives here, so they just...

Kristy's World Tour!

Nov 5, 2004 - Back in Uppsala
