Jul 19, 2009 - Swedish Country house - entry by Marcus
This is a short entry to summarise the three wonderful weeks I had in the country house with my parents. After having left work on Friday (having to work really late on Libra) we had to clear and clean the flat during the weekend. We moved most of the furniture during the Saturday using a man and van company. We moved most of the boxes ourselves from the second floor to the ground floor before the man and van arrived. This made the whole removal process very quick. We managed to get everything moved into the storage place in two hours;...

Jul 13, 2009 - Back to the countryhouse mushroom picking and golf...
Having done most of the work on the cottage in the first week, we spent the second week just relaxing and enjoying the warm swedish summer. (To be fair swedish summer holiday can be a bit of a hit and miss. Sometimes there is glorious sunshine and sometimes it rains and the outdoor temperature hardly reach 13C. I have spent one afternoon trying to learn to play golf. To see my golf attempt video clips, click below -...

Jul 8, 2009 - At Marcus' country house
We spent the second week of our trip in the beautiful swedish countryside. This summer we have moved into our own little cottage. The small cottage was built in the 17th century that was originally intended to house the families of swedish soldiers. How it worked was that each farm was meant to support a soldier and his family: the farm owner needed to build a small cottage to provide accomodation for the soldier as a form of "war levy". Marcus' parents have already restored the cottage into a very good condition with new paint and wall...

Aug 19, 2006 - Swedish Valkommen in Strangnas
Last entry we were packing up house in Brisbane - a lot has happened since! After 20 hours in the air, 3 hours in KL airport and a debate with Malaysian airport security, we arrived in Stockholm feeling pretty tired but good all the same. (Despite having checked with Malaysian airlines several times the week before we left, our liquids were confiscated in Malaysia - who would have known the plane we were on was going to the US after Stockholm? Liz was distraught to lose some cosmetics and we were both very sad to leave behind our duty free...

Sep 6, 2005 - Nynashamn
Start: Ynge (10km south of Visby) End: Nynäshamn Weather: Sunny with Clouds Ride: 15km Awoke too early, so decided to start work on the overdue journal entries for Denmark. Plotting the outline for the first entry was enough to make me tired again, however it was almost 7am and since I knew that I would be able to see the 7.05am ferry departing Visby, before trying to go back to sleep I stared out the tent flap at the sea. The ferry was further away than anticipated and quite small. Much closer and pleasing to the eye was a ship laden with...

Jun 14, 2004 - Sweden Part 2
Holiday Notes June Part 2 - 7th June onwards to 13th. Monday 7th June Not so nice today, dry but overcast-so decide to play tennis and visit the Bibliotek for the free internet access. However, we discover that we have to pay to play tennis - Huh! And when we go to the Tourist info to pay, she says not here, next door at the hole in the wall café - and I'm not sure how much it is this year, perhaps 40 or 50 kroner - it's June not January - are we the first tourists to ask to play - if so it should be free for us! Anyway, the young guy at...
