Up very early this morning for our walk through the Sinharaja Forest Reserve. It is the last major undisturbed area of rainforest in Sri Lanka and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1989. The reserve comprises 189 square kms of forest. We decided on a 2 hour walk which turned out to be 2 hours from the entrance, which took us an hour to get to. We ended up walking 10 kms along leech-infested paths. It was actually very interesting, and included a visit to the Nawada tree, not unlike the Ada Tree near Powelltown, although smaller. We saw...
