The photo labelled White elephant in the previous entry, is a tower built in Colombo, that the government doesn't know what to use it for. The tower was the brainchild of a previous government. Sounds familiar- governments wasting money! There are plenty of monkeys here in Sri Lanka. They are tossing tiles off the roof of the hotel, getting chased by dogs at the Buddhist temples, and plucking green mangoes from the tall trees and throwing them at us as we walked by at the hotel. Jan 17, 2011 - Monday afternoon Puttalam to Harabana

Monday afternoon - Puttalam to Harabana After a welcome cup of coffee we set off on the five hour drive to Habarana, stopping for lunch, at a lovely place with the most magnificent stands of bamboo. The reason I tried to sleep when it was still dark was so that I wouldn’t miss anything en-route, but it didn’t work. I couldn’t stay awake! In fact everyone was asleep.
