After a day of rest after our journey south we started our exploration of the area by visiting the town of Elche. Elche is famous throughout Spain for its exotic palm forest and is now a UNESCO site. The palm trees were originally planted by the Moors but the industry continues today with the female trees producing dates and the male trees fronds being used in Palm Sunday processions across Spain.
