At the start of the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius advises that one should “see the place”. He calls this the “composition”. Our first full day here in Loyola provided us the opportunity to “see the place” and be present. It was a full but restful day, nice not to be on a plane or a bus. After breakfast, we gathered to pray the Liturgy of the Hours in the chapel of the Arrupe Hotel. Following prayer, we walked to the Loyola Family Castle and toured the three floors. Oct 16, 2011 - Loyola - Ignatius' Hometown

We boarded the bus for the one-hour ride to Loyola, and most of us promptly fell asleep. We woke up just in time to see the beautiful basilica as we entered the town. After checking into our rooms, we headed to the chapel on the top floor for our opening Mass. We shared the names of all those who we are praying for on this pilgrimage, our family and friends, those who asked for our prayers, the poor and suffering.
