Feb 22, 2016 - BOOT CAMP

Yes dear reader, the last two weeks has been a bit like boot camp. We have done lots of cycling, swimming, walking in the mountains and even some tennis. So you would be forgiven for thinking we have probably lost loads of weight, but no, I’m afraid not. Reason being is despite the exercise, we have also been eating and drinking well. So we managed to get into campsite Los Madrilles, we had a choice of 3 spaces and chose the one with a sea view. This is the campsite with the warm sea water swimming pool. Lovely to get in but if its a bit...

Feb 4, 2016 - La Manga and Cap Palos

Over two days we explored the coast south from the campground. Most of the coast was over developed with hotels and apartments by the thousands except for beaches and the occasional good promenade no real interest. At La Manga we explored the rocky headland of Cape Palos, although it was not a good day to do much walking. The place was almost deserted with many properties closed up for the winter, but there was an interesting lighthouse. We also explored inland from La Manga, It became very clear that the area had been mined for metals as...

Sep 16, 2015 - At La Tercia

Tuesday/Wed 15/16th Sept At Eugene & Dee's. Lovely couple days spent around the area in the mornings, relaxing in the sun and in the pool for me afternoons. Just a shame we have to keep Blue in the motorhome, dogs aren't allowed in the pool area - he'd be in the water straight away - but it is cooler in the afternoons inside, after 4ish, before that it's like being inside a big tin can in the desert when we have no electric to provide air con. Went to Lo Pagan again, this time the water was a really deep pink, and young flamingos were busy...

May 29, 2015 - May 1st to 23rd

May 1st Friday, and really hot. Got ready to leave. Saturday, left and dawdled across to Balsica where we had lunch then arrived at Eugene and Dee's, sat on their balcony and caught up with "stuff". Roy kept going down to check on the dogs as it was so hot, must think of something, it's too hot for them. Luckily it wasn't long before it cooled down, but tmoro will be the same... Had a lovely Chinese meal in the evening. Sunday we decided to get the car out and we all went to Mar Menor, dogs are cool in the car, and we could take them with...

Winter 2013

Apr 30, 2015 - Mid/end April

We are still on the same Aire near Cartagena Friday 24th. We went to La Manga; Roy tells me it's one of only two very long, thin peninsulas in the northern hemisphere. We drove the whole length and back (obviously)! Very weird seeing beaches and sea both sides for miles (about 12). Stopped for a drink in a roadside cafe, dogs very well behaved, think they're getting used to it. Then drove to the north of Mar Menor, saw 2 camp sites, both large, one dreadful, indescribably scruffy. The other very nice if you are gregarious. Not for us. Went...

Winter 2013

Apr 12, 2015 - April

April Easter, and the site is jam packed full of Spanish families, weather ok, not as good as this time last year, but the pool was open and everyone had a good time. The same family camped next door to us, this year we managed to "chat" a few times, and we got lots of hugs and kisses when they left, exchanging gifts of a local wine and Scottish shortbread. We intended leaving around the 6th, but happy campers still here and we couldn't get out, so just waited a few days.....in the cold... Weather after Easter turned bad again and we...

Jan 21, 2014 - Alquerias - Day 2

Lovely sunny morning but still very cold until the sun gets high. Our electric tripped out during the night so the electric heater cut out also. No problem just cold getting up & dressed. A Norwegian couple were on the pitch opposite us so I had a quick chat with them, not in Norwegian, about motor homing in Norway. They have come all the way down from near Oslo & expect to clock up about 9,000 miles by the time they have been on to Portugal & then back to Norway. That's a good trip I expect to do around 4,000 miles on our present trip. He...

Jan 20, 2014 - Alquerias

The wind got up during the night & we got rocked around a bit. A lot of the long stay campers had to stack away there tables & chairs etc as it was quite a strong blow. We didn't have any loose stuff outside to blow away so we were alright apart from the rocking. The wind brought some warmer air with it as it wasn't as cold this morning as it has been. Anyway we decided that we had done all that we wanted to do in Calpe so we packed up & moved out. There was a Lidl store close by so Viv stocked us up again with foodstuff. Mustn't let her...

Jan 10, 2014 - El Berro, Murcia

We left Camping Los Llanos mid-morning yesterday and drove 217km to Alhama de Murcia. Our destination was Camping Sierra Espuña in El Berro (N 37° 53' 17" W 1° 29' 35"). It was a beautiful day and most of the trip on the motorway was pleasant scenery; the toll was €11.35. The last part was a winding road up into the hills, and YES we missed a signpost and YES we drove through the village despite the instruction in the ACSI guide NOT to. We were lucky there was no traffic and we made it unscathed. The campsite is quite small and very...

Nov 21, 2013 - Week 4

Monday 18th Blue's paws still bothering him. Washed, but couldn't get it dry as it rained and was cold and windy all day. Colder here than Scotland today! 8 degC only. Roy put gas heating on to get us warm, the site's electric not good enough to put up high. Tuesday 19th Walked into town with the dogs as it was cool again, went to see the Gothic church with its purple-y-blue roof, and just strolled around the centre, which is like a ghost town, not more than a handful of people, hardly any shops open. Good walk for us all, dogs shattered...

Nov 30, 2012 - Cartagena

The next day we were in Cartgena, Spain, and again we struck out on our own (without Rick Steves this time!)It has the beautiful architecture that we also noted in Barcelona and is a delight to walk around. It is a quaint little Medieval city, complete with a fair. It also has excavated ruins from Roman times. These ruins were only discovered a few years ago, so they are in the middle of the city, and you have to walk around or under modern buildings to get to the various parts that have been excavated! We also walked to a medieval castle...
