Jul 11, 2007 - Cartagena (via just about everywhere!)

What a day!! A nightmare navigation-wise!!! Today I crossed from the province of Valenciana into Murcia, but first I stopped in Alicante to check out the 16th Century Castillo de Santa Bárbera. They took me back to square one - I didn't need to get off there in the first place at all!! Found San Pedro but instead of being a cute little town, it was a dive, and there didn't seem to be anywhere to stay anyway!! Found Lo Pagán but no sign of the jetty, so, being 8pm by this time, pushed on to Cartagena. ... Has to be something there right? Well, yes. What a day!! A nightmare navigation-wise!!! Ah well you can now see from the map that I am just to the east of Cartagena. ... For those that know the tackier parts of Spain, this means that I am at La Manga, for those that have never heard it, there is a big golf resort in the area and squillions of high rise hotels/holiday apartments.Ah well you can now see from the map that I am just to the east of Cartagena. ... Feb 21, 2006 - Winter in Spain, 2006

Our campground was about a half hour drive west of Cartagena. ... I had never heard of Cartagena but it was a very important town in ancient times. ... According to one sign we saw in the museum the decline came with the Romans, they just were not as civilized as the Greeks! Through the second century AD Cartagena was one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire. ... A lot of history in this area! One of the museums we went to in Cartagena was the Archaeological Museum. ... We saw all sorts of navel equipment, many beautiful ship models of actual ships built in Cartagena, a map from 1455, even a whole room to Issac Peral who invented the first submarine to shoot forward. ...

Oct 31, 2004 - Spain the next bit

The Next bit - the Spainish Inquisition Tuesday 28th September Right you lot, it's sing-a-long-a time; so after 3 - 1, 2 and 3 "We're off to sunny Spain, Viva Espanya" Ok that's enough!! So we leave a quiet (no wind) and sunny Argeles to head down and up and down a very twisty coast road before heading across country and then down to Blanes (nr Gerona). Eventually decide to follow our original route to Fortuna and hence Murcia. ... Leave the A-7 towards Fortuna and both our hearts sink, though we say nothing. The Next bit - the Spainish Inquisition Tuesday 28th September Right you lot, it's sing-a-long-a time; so after 3 - 1, 2 and 3 "We're off to sunny Spain, Viva Espanya" Ok that's enough!!
