Sep 24, 2018 - Palma De Mallorca

After a short overnight trip we docked at our first port well before any of us woke up but by just after 9:00, 2/3 of our group were walking down the gangway to start our exploration of Palma. Palma is the capital city of Mallorca, a Spanish island that is conveniently located off the eastern coast of Spain. Dave was battling a cold so he and Kathy stayed on the ship which left the 4 of us to wander around like typical confused American tourists...which we were. It really wasn’t that bad as we had taken the short shuttle bus ride from the...

Jul 10, 2012 - Spanish Islands, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca

I liked Palma de Mallorca and would love to to come again to spend more time. The water is just like in St. Croix and I enjoyed swimming to the beach. Didn't like Ibiza at all. It was dirty, flat, and barren looking. They say that after dark it comes alive and many European young people come there to party.

May 5, 2011 - Mallorca and Rome

Wow! Where did the time go? I can't believe how long it's been since my last post. For those of you who were hoping for more...sorry. The last couple of years have been absolutely nonstop busy, but I'm hoping to have a bit more leisure time now, at least enough to post a bit more often. Jeanne and I, and Bob and Rena took a couple of weeks in Feb to travel to the Balearic Islands, specifically Mallorca. The weather was a little cool, but no snow at least. Very interesting place...not a traffic light in sight, but a million roundabouts....

Dec 27, 2010 - Oops I did it again....

At least it isn't broken this time – I think. So we had to move from our little slice of heaven today. I truly fell in love with Soller. The town, the people, our comfy, comfy beds in the hotel and a guaranteed hot breakfast, it was fabulous. But like all good things, it had to end and we needed to move on to new adventures. We found an "apartment hotel" outside of Palma, that seemed like a good idea at the time, so we packed up and headed out. Really, we should have stayed in bed. We've been using a lonely planet book to help us figure...

The Great Adventure

Dec 17, 2010 - The Murphy's Law Couple: Let the Games Begin!! ohhh and Hola from Espania!!!

So Shawana blames my bad travel karma and I blame hers but it's all kind of a moot point at this point 'cause we're married and together we are just gonna have to figure it out!! So everything started off well enough, got packed and off to the airport at 2 in the morning for our 5:30 flight. Josh dropped us off, we said our adios's and then headed towards the check in. We got checked in ok and after an apparent X-ray machine snaffu they got it all working and we were able to send off the bags to Madrid... we thought... But blissfully...

The Great Adventure

Oct 20, 2009 - The past three weeks

A ton has happened in the last few weeks... The reason I haven't been able to update is because my computer died and I wan't able to find the repair shop to fix it. So, I'm surviving off the school's computers and my host mom is generous enough to let me use hers. Regular classes have started and I've finally been able to get some traveling in. The weekend of the ninth, we found a boat to Ibiza that took three hours. Because it isn't the peak of the season, there were very few people there but it was really pretty. Not as pretty as...

Sep 27, 2009 - Formentor and Alcudia

What a day! We met at 10am and drove to the other side of the island. At first, we visit Roman ruins from the first century and walked around the market there. Then, we went to a traditional beach and played in the water. After that, we hiked up to the top of a lookout point. It was gorgeous! Although a cloud day, that water still looked beautiful. After coming down from there, we drove to the beach of Hotel Formentor, which was more of a bay but the water was crystal clear. Last but not least, we went to a lighthouse with yet another...

Sep 24, 2009 - Palma De Mallorca (Spain)

Mallorca is a very airy, new clean city which appears to have lots of money - the marina is a prime example of richness with its beautiful, large yachts. Nice weather, wide palm and tree lined streets and designer shops mixed with the quaint marketlike stores. We lunched in a mall with a fountain and lined with palms and trees and watched the colouful and varied types of people pass us by. The large cathedral was very impressive with horse drawn carts (owned by gypsies, we think), artists selling paintings of Mallorca (of which we bought...

Sep 24, 2009 - Soller

Today we went to Soller, a town along the northern coast. We took a train that lasted about an hour and then a smaller trolley to the beach. It's a bay surrounded by mountains and it was absolutely gorgeous. Then, at dinner tonight, my host mom told me that I was about to eat a spanish delicacy... then, when I was done, she told me what it was. Pig's feet. And they were delicious.

Sep 20, 2009 - The beginning!

I'm finally settled! I arrived in Palma on Tuesday around 7pm with luggage in tow. Although it was a long flight, the fact that I was so excited to get here made it better. After the first lunch on Wednesday with the entire group, we walked around the city with the resident director and the lady in charge of housing assignments. All of the meals that we've had so far have been so good. They use olive oil on EVERYTHING. There's a lot of pork and seafood and tomatoes are almost in everything as well. On Thursday, we walked around the city...

Apr 4, 2009 - Mallorca Island

To celebrate our first year of dating, Jason and I took a week vacation to the Spanish Island of Mallorca as a present to each other. On Saturday we took the hour and a half flight from Madrid to the Palma airport (the largest city on the island). As always with every flight they ask you to turn off your cell phones and all electronic devices. My phone was packed away and being such an early flight (we woke up at 4am to get ready for the flight), I was too tired to reach the phone and thought, "Who is going to call this phone?…I think I’m...

Jul 23, 2008 - Palma de Mallorca - Sightseeing and shopping with Kelly while the boys are on the beach at C'an Pastilla

This morning we're waking up at Paul and Doris's, having breakfast, but Monique has to go in to Palma to pick up her vehicle from the shop and then she'll drop us back to Kelly and Daniel's when she goes into Biniali. As soon as we arrive back to Biniali, Kelly and I head into Palma for an afternoon of sight-seeing and shopping while Daniel and Randy take the kids to the beach at Can Pastilla. Palma de Mallorca Spain: Mallorca, the exceptional place of the Mediterranean, an island with bright beaches and amazing corners full of poetry and...
