Jul 6, 2004 - Paella y Sangria (If it´s Tuesday, I´m in Barcelona...)

My second overnight train in two days dumped me in Barcelona at 11:30am Tuesday morning. I was exhausted from my train riding and whirlwind day in Paris...and it was another three days in the same clothes morning. My grey shirt was actually beginning to turn weird colors in different spots. All I wanted was my hostel and a shower. I finally found my hostel, after getting a bit lost and I get there around 1pm...and the woman tells me that they close in the afternoon. I was about to cry at the thought of not being able to shower for three...

FINDING MY WAY

Jun 11, 2004 - teresa- Barcelona, Spain

Well we didn´t exactly wake up in the morning and say to ourselves "Let´s go to the beach and get ridiculously painfully burnt! That sounds like fun!" I guess things just work out sometimes. It was a beautifull day. Agnes and I sat down to relax, I put my headphones on and listened to some jack johnson, took a little nap, and woke up red. They call white girls here "la blancha" but I´m pretty sure the word for me would have been "la rosa" But besides the burn Barcelona is great! Agnes and i took a bus 19 stops up to Park Guell (the Gaudi...

Jun 6, 2004 - Barcelona

Barcelona was a blast. It was a bit of a crazy city and we stayed right in the middle of it all being next to La Ramblas, which is a street with a wide pedestrian boulevard while in the middle it is filled with cafes, endless tourists and people trying to sell dodgy gadgets. Not much seemed to happen in Barcelona until midday but once things got started they didn't stop. In fact, on our last day (Sunday 6 June 2004), we left town at 6.00am and droves of people were still going home from the previous night! We enjoyed sangria, tapas and (of...

Mar 27, 2004 - Barcelona, Spain & Southwestern France

NOTE: TIME (AND MONEY - EUROPE IS EXPENSIVE!) DOES NOT PERMIT A LENGTHY WRITE-UP; APOLOGIES TO ALL. Before we left on this trip, one sentence that was consistently repeated was, "are you going to Barcelona?" How could we say no? When we arrived, we discovered just how different traveling with a car is when compared to the true backpacking we've been doing thus far. Parking became a concern, and we thus ended up staying fairly far from the city's center, but connected by the subway system. The weather was not particularly kind to us, so on...
