Sep 29, 2004 - Adios Amigos...

Well we finally made it to our final destination on our first part of our trip. Suprisingly we aren´t feeling tired at all and are already really excited about our next part. Barcelona has been wicked, the Gaudi architecture is unreal and we both loved it, especially the Parc Guell, La Sagrada Familia and the Le Pedera. There has been so much Gaudi stuff that we´ve seen but these are definately our best. We have spent our four days here doing site seeing in the mornings and then lazing about on the beach in the afternoons and then in the...

Our trip home ....

Sep 17, 2004 - Barcelona

Monday 13 September saw us leave Italy via a long drive from Como (via 2 hours lost in Milan) to Montpellier, France. Montpellier was a good days drive from Como as well as being where my friend Nick Holmes and his girlfriend Angie were for the week. We got to Montpellier at about 6pm and booked into a motel - the first night in bed for about 50 days. Caught the tram into town and caught up with Nick and Angie and talked about old times etc. Nice dinner and a few drinks and after midnight by the time we got back to the motel just as a...

Sep 14, 2004 - Barcelona, Spain

Hola from Barcelona! It is nice to be out of London where the only thing we could afford to do was walk. Barcelona is amazing. We arrived Sunday afternoon and spent the day walking around the old sections of town. The architecture is beautiful and the little streets are filled with people. We met some interesting characters from Chile, Taiwan, Senegal and Mexico in Plaza Reial and spent the evening listening to stories about everyones travels. On Monday Ben and I went to Sagrada Familia which is this amazing church that has been under...

Sep 7, 2004 - Tapas in Barcelona

Hi Everyone we have been in Barcelona since Monday and have been enjoying a daily dose of tapas at one of the many bars blanketing the city. Arriving Monday wasn't very exciting - just a 8 hour bus ride to report, although we did meet a couple of nice guys - Allen from Australia and Theo from Madrid who gave us a few tips for Barcelona and our next stop, Tarragona. Tuesday we hit the pavement and started the day at the Cathedral with a cloister of nuns right in the city. It was next to the city museum which has a fantastic underground...

Aug 5, 2004 - Loving Barcelona

So far Barcelona has been awesome. Our train was delayed at the border for unknown reasons, but I saw the conductor throwing people off the train and people running along side trying to get on. Was quite funny. We arrived in Barcelona at 11pm to find the entire train station closed. Luckily I had written down the addresses of some hotels I found on the internet and took a taxi to the first one. As Shelly ran inside to check for availability I waited out at the cab. The hotel was awesome, very modern and clean. Luckily they had a room...

Jul 28, 2004 - Apologies for my silence...

Apologies for my silence but my last week in British Columbia was a little hectic. Needless to say, my time there was fantastic and I enjoyed every minute, and it was feeling a bit down that I packed my bag and headed back to Vancouver for my flight home. I said goodbye to all the docs and Ashely, who was staying another week, got taken out for a meal to say goodbye and was generally made a big fuss off. As they said, having British med students is great fun 'cause they get to show off British Columbia and we're a bit different... wasn't...

Jul 19, 2004 - Gran Canaria to Barcelona

Woke up early... about 5am or so. I wanted to get near the gate so if I fell asleep somehow hopefully the gate people would wake me up for the plane. Well I didn't end up falling back asleep and got on the plane alright. There was a guy next to me still sleeping when I was about to get in line to get on the plane so I let the gate people know maybe they should wake him up... (I wish someone would have done the same for me). I slept on the way to Barcelona and got back in time to get to my last class about 20 minutes late. In retrospect I...

Jul 8, 2004 - Madrid to Barcelona

Rode the bus, read and then read some more. It was nice that the bus station I got dropped off at in Barcelona was like 3 blocks or less away from where we were staying. I found it alright and ran into Gwynna and Humberto who were going over to Corte Ingles (Spain's Sears) to buy a fan since... omigosh ... there was no AC! Well they ended up getting fans but I bought and iron instead figuring I rather have unwrinkled clothes than buy a big fan that I'm going to only use for 3 weeks and then give away. Later on that night sleeping I would...

Jul 6, 2004 - Paella y Sangria (If it´s Tuesday, I´m in Barcelona...)

My second overnight train in two days dumped me in Barcelona at 11:30am Tuesday morning. I was exhausted from my train riding and whirlwind day in Paris...and it was another three days in the same clothes morning. My grey shirt was actually beginning to turn weird colors in different spots. All I wanted was my hostel and a shower. I finally found my hostel, after getting a bit lost and I get there around 1pm...and the woman tells me that they close in the afternoon. I was about to cry at the thought of not being able to shower for three...
