Apr 26, 2019 - Sahagun through Leon to Villar de Mansarife

In Sahagun train station I met an Englishman who had begun hiking, then rented a bike in Burgos and had planned to ride to Leon and then begin hiking again. But it snowed and rained on the trail. He said it took him 3 hours to push the bike 5 kms through the mud. He was soaked, his shoes were wet and he had put his feet into plastic bags and then into his shoes. He was cold and totally exhausted. He wanted to take the train to Leon but the train, leaving within the hour, didn't allow bikes on it. He was panicking. He contacted the bike...

Apr 26, 2019 - Villar de Mansarife - life over the day in Tio Pepe

Having arrived very very early in Villar de Mansarife, I have time to show you what an Albergue looks like. This is a lovely little Albergue in a tiny village. The women who run this Albergue are wonderful and very friendly. Early in the morning it was just the local folks in for coffee in the morning. I was having lunch when the first pilgrims arrived beginning at 1:30 p.m. They are still arriving at 3:00 p.m. and I expect they will continue to arrive over the next hour or so. It's now evening and the pilgrims are gathering for dinner....
