Feb 10, 2005 - Sevilla, Spain

Hola again, I arrived in Seville. I took a taxi to go to the hostel. No rooms available. So, I checked into a hotel. This place has no heat and the room is very cold. So, I turned on the hot shower to warm it up a little and get it ready for a nice shower. It worked. Room became a sauna and I strip teased my clothes off to a nice tune I made myself and got in the shower... Oh yeah, time to relax and enjoy a hot shower.... Hold on.. Where did that hot water goooooo?? Water was becoming colder and colder by the second. The hotel is old and...

Feb 9, 2005 - On the move again(Granada)

I finally suceeded getting out of Barcelona. I really love that city, but it doesn´t treat me very well. After spending a few extra days recovering and letting the anti-biotics do their work, I hopped on a night train bound for Granada. Before I left Barcelona I spent a bunch of days simply wandering around for a few hours to explore the city. One day I wandered into the wrong street, and I was followed by two kids about 14 or 15 years old. I kept walking faster and they kept walking faster. They finally got a little too close for comfort...

Jan 23, 2005 - Vejer de la Frontiera

Our bus passes through many small towns as we wind our way down the coast of Spain. The towns are somewhat drab looking and unappealing and we´re relieved each time the bus carries on out of the towns. We´re on our way to Vejer, a small hilltop town. In the distance on a hill we spot a gleaming white town and hope that it is our destination. It is Saturday afternoon and we´ve landed in this beautiful town where everything is closed up tight. Our town map is unreadable, we have no hotel listing, we are starving and everywhere we look it is...

Jan 20, 2005 - Seville, A Flamenco Adventure

It´s a beautiful clear evening as we set out to walk to the Flamenco concert. We venture onto some new streets (more like alleys that form a maze) that run through the Old City of Sevilla. It has taken us two days to master getting back to our hotel in one go so we´re really being very brave. We are rewarded for our bravery with a ¨3 WOW Wander¨. As we turn a corner and look up at a balcony that has cascading trailing geraniums we see a sign for Juderia Street. We follow this street until we get to what must have been the gates of the...

Nov 30, 2004 - The Rain in Spain...

Well there has been no rain in Spain, except for tonight and it was hardly anything to moan about, just a quick shower. We left the hostel in Montpellier early in the morning and walked down to the train station, but unfortunately we missed the early train to Barcelona by 1 minute. The next train wasn´t until 5.30pm so we had a bit of a panic. the solution was to catch three trains which ended up taking all day. the first train was a 2 hour all-stop train to the border, where we waited for three hours in a tiny deserted French resort town....

Nov 26, 2004 - GRANADA (spain)

We arrived in Granada friday night after a very comfy coach ride, Andy had never had so much leg room before. I was too excited about seeing my brother Stu to sleep and so watched the video "Wasabi" which I found quite amusing even though it was in Spanish, with just a little Japanese. My Spanish has been improving and I have been proud of my efforts but Stuey´s put me to shame and so he has been our spokes person since arriving in this student town. Accomodation is a neccessity and so that part of the budget is always a given, expect if...

Nov 16, 2004 - Spain - of Mountains and Sea

The` South of Spain - Mountains and Sea Friday 22nd October 2004 Off to the South again. Down fairly quiet Autopistas and after a circle of Granada we find the selected campsite in the mountains. Really nice but a little disappointing in the views - nice but not spectacular - yes I know we are hard to please. Rather than cook we decide to try the campsite restaurant - and it's nice but more expensive than we are used to!! 37 Euros for the meal including wine - so about £24 GBP - so OK really!! Saturday 23rd October Off to the Sierra Nevada...

Nov 10, 2004 - Cordoba

After an overnight trip on the train hotel!!! we are now in Cordoba. At one time Cordoba was the richest city in Europe. It is now a lovely little white town with a castle & the largest mosque in the world outside Mecca (which is now a cathedral). There is also a Roman bridge & Moorish baths .... something for everyone. We wandered the cobbled streets of the Jewish quarter, said hello to Seneca outside one gate & Memonides at the other and really enjoyed the sunshine.

Nov 4, 2004 - Eco-WWOOFing, and GO SOX

Hello Everyone!!! Not sure where we left off in our travels, but now we are in Vejer, right next to Cadiz. We are WWOOFing with a British family. They have two kids, Emily and Robin, ages 5 and 8. They are very eco-friendly, with solar power and water collected from a vat on the roof. However it isnt bad and they are really nice. The work is easy: painting. I figure that I am practically professional by now. We have our own little house to stay in to. It is sooooo cute, but has lots of creeeeeepy crawlies, and today we found and eliminated...

Oct 31, 2004 - Portugal is paradise! (and back to London we go!)

Have spent the last week on the beaches of Portugal so you'll have to forgive me for being tardy with this update. Since my last email had a few fun nights in London before Annie and I headed off on a jet plane to sunny Faro Portugal. It was so good to see Mom & Dad (and Uncle Kenny & Auntie Darlene too of course) and I can't tell you how amazing it was to have a home base where we could actually unpack and, gasp, hang up our clothes!!! It was quite funny how excited we were about the hanging up situation but you've got to understand that...

Oct 17, 2004 - Cadiz to Almerimar

01/09/04 Departed Cadiz at 0900 and motor sailed to Cape Roche where we picked up 'Sedna' and then all three ships proceeded to Barbate. We anchored out and had a BBQ on the Princess. Must have been a good night as Terry and a crew load of guests went chasing seagulls in the night. There was a huge flock of them on the water in a long line. We had the stern floodlight on to help them see and we inadvertently left it on all night. The batteries took a hammering but we had plenty of power left in the morning. 630 amps of 24 volt power go a...
