May 15, 2016 - And the Sun Shineth Again

AND THE SUN SHINETH AGAIN The rain in Spain has finally stopped falling on the plain. The sun is shining and the Mediterranean Sea is a beautiful blue. We arrived in the Costa del Sol to sunny skies but then the skies opened up and we had five days of practically non-stop rain. They even had flood warnings out for our area. The good news is that we were at our timeshare exchange resort so we were comfy and warm. Took the time to relax and read, play cards and practice putting on the green between downpours. Needless to say, Betty and I won...

Oct 15, 2014 - Spain Day 5 - Rock of Gibraltar

Our tour brochure called this a day of leisure!!!!!! I guess what that meant was that they hadn't planned anything for our evening! This morning we headed out on the bus at our usual early hour for a day trip to the Rock of Gibraltar which is not in Spain but is part of the UK and is a British Overseas Territory. Since the border crossing with the bus can be very time consuming with traffic jams and backups, our bus parked in La Linea de la Concepcion, the town on the Spain side, leaving us with a long walk to go through customs and...

Living Our Dream

Oct 14, 2014 - Spain Day 4b - To the Costa del Sol

And for the rest of the story.... After our tour of the Alhambra we were very happy to sit and relax on the bus for awhile. We stopped at the little mountain farm town of Loja for lunch. It was kind of a strange lunch.... we weren't quite sure what we were eating. Back on the bus again, we wound around through the mountains, then dropped down to the Mediterranean and headed for our 2 night stop in the resort town of Marbella at the Fuerte Miramar Hotel. Marbella is considered one of the nicest resort towns along the Costa del Sol and sits...

Living Our Dream

Jan 26, 2014 - Marbella

I think we were the only people staying at this Aire tonight. There were lots of motorhomes in the yard but they all appear to be stored. We were nice & safe though as the yard was shut up & there was a dog & a watchman on all night. It was a cold start to the day again but it was clear & it warmed up very nicely during the day. We did another short hop down to the outskirts of Marbella, only 31 miles. We could easily have made it down to Gibraltar but we're not in a hurry & we wanted to see Marbella again after twenty odd years. We have...

Jan 4, 2014 - España with my familia

Happy New Year everyone! The family left yesterday after almost 2 weeks in Spain. We stayed at a great resort in Marbella, in the province of Málaga (still in Andalucía). It was right on the Mediterranean Sea! Marbella is a pretty touristy area because of all the resorts, but still fun. Churros con chocolate, paella, and plenty of other good food. The weather was pretty great actually, but on one of the rainier days we kinda just hung out in our apartment and played cards. We rented a big Mercedes van so we could do se day trips, too. The...

Apr 23, 2012 - Gibraltar to Puerto Banus

23 April: We set off into the Mediterranean proper at about midday, rounding Europa Point at the southern tip of Gibraltar and heading east up the coast of Andalucia. Just to the east of Gib we spotted a large green sea turtle at the surface – probably having come up to breathe. We were going a fair speed so didn’t have time to take a photo but got a fabulous view of it as it passed by the side of the boat. We had a lovely sail in bright sunshine and it was almost the first day since we set out last July that Jane has been warm enough not...

Jul 21, 2010 - Marbella, a jewel on the Costa del Sol

Sunday, July 18th Today we boarded the bus that heads to the sunny coast and elegant Marbella. We travelled through a precipitous mountain pass with dizzying drops and bridges spanning wide valleys. We both commented on how relieved we were that we were not driving but just sitting back and relaxing. The buses like the trains are efficient and on time. Once we arrived in Marbella,a posh beach and golf resort city on the Mediterranean, we decided to purchase some tickets we would be needing in the next few days. I had taken to the habit of...

Off to Spain!

May 8, 2009 - Marbella & Ronda

One place that Jason and I were looking forward to exploring was the southern coast of Spain...la Costa del Sol! One weekend we decided to head to Marbella and Ronda. Marbella is known for nice beaches and resorts, while Ronda (a bit inland) is more known for its 500 foot gorge spanned by a Roman stone bridge, the Puente San Miguel, as well as the oldest bullring in Spain (built in the 1700s). So, we jumped on the high-speed train for the two-hour trip to Malaga where we picked up our rental car and began our weekend of fun, sun and...

Jan 5, 2009 - Three Kings Day

Today was a very special celebration in Spain. Three Kings Day, which is more important then Christmas. Here the children receive their gifts on Jan 6th. Mike and I had our first adventure and went into the the town of Marbella to experience the festivities. We started by walking though the old town of Marbella, taking photos and looking at all the little shops and Tapas bars. The toy stores were filled with people shopping for their kids. We stopped for lunch for one of our fave meals....Shawarma, or as its known here, Donner. Mike had the...

Jul 4, 2008 - Spain (Camping Fuente – Fortuna to Camping Marbella Playa - Marbella)

I awoke feeling like s**t. I had had about 4 hours uninterrupted sleep… and it was hot. Shut the van down ready for the road and we set off. The title line above says “to Camping Marbella Playa” as the destination. This was not actually going to be the case. We had read about a campsite about three hours west of Fortuna at a place called Amerimar. We got there with little problems, found the turn off (as per the book) but that was where it ended as far as things going to plan. The book said go passed seven round-a-bouts and at the seventh...

Blue and JGs OE

Dec 5, 2007 - Nov 30 - Christmas with the boys

Well, it was all planned and as the saying goes, best laid plans etc.... Kieron was flying back from Oz and would be in Barcelona at around 530, Chantal fly in from Genoa at 545 and Bj, who is already in Barcelona would meet us with his car at the airport and we would drive to Marbella for the weekend. A few tell tale text messages to say that Kieron was on track, Bj was ready to break loose for freedom and well, I was ready to get out of Genoa again and catch the guys up before we all dispersed over the northern hemisphere again. The...

Jul 15, 2007 - Marbella

Made it!!! Started today trying to update this site, but that's when I lost everything I'd written up and never got to complete loading all the pics I wanted to...grr!! Very pleased to get here though. Dropped the car off and eventually found a taxi to take me to my homestay. The driver seemed genuinely lost, but even I could tell which street we were supposed to be on after a while, but he wouldn't listen to me. He eventually tried to charge me €6 but I said I'm not paying for driving all over town, and offered only €5. Not much of a...
