Apr 21, 2006 - Malaga, Spain

Well I finally left Madrid and ended up in Malaga, the capital of Costa del Sol in southern Spain. I played music for the locals and enjoyed the sites. Malaga was founded in the 8th century by the Phoenicians although there were archaeological indications that prehistoric man got there first. It was later under the control of the Carthaginians, but it was the Romans who converted the region into a city and gave it the status of a confederate city of Rome. It's the birthplace of Picasso and there is an ancient fortress built on top of the...

Feb 18, 2006 - Malaga

Malaga is a pretty uninspiring destination but I had arranged to meet my uncle there becquse he has a time share there was there... It was really good to catch up with my uncle for lunch but he had to dash to catch at overnight train to Valencia that night so didn't have much time with him. I also met with Richard the English guy I met in Seville. We had a great dinner of tapas where you select the cold tapas from a cabinet at the bar and then trays of cold tapas are brought around to you. To work out your bill at the end of the night they...

Dec 23, 2005 - Costa del Sol, Spain

The parts for our motor home got held up for over a week at the broker's in Lisbon (finally Randy and our new friend Philip, as translator, drove all the way there to do battle and to pick them up. There is still the small matter of the €100 they demanded to release the parts but we are working on that.). By the time the parts were installed, we had two days to get from Alcobaça, near the west coast of Portugal, to Malaga, on the south coast of Spain. Jennifer, and her fiancé Elias arrived in Malaga on Christmas Eve - to rain and cool...

Nov 8, 2005 - Nerja

Today we got up bright and early, picked up the rental car and said goodbye to Granada as we headed down to the town of Nerja, on the Costa del Sol. It was a nice drive through the Spanish countryside without much traffic, passing groves of orange and olive trees and not much else but dry, rocky hills as we headed down towards the coast. It was only an hour and a half drive, but it was a like entering a differant world. The town is pretty quiet, being as it's November, and we got a room at an excellent hotel, very fancy-shmancy, right on...

Oct 10, 2005 - Rhonda

Rhonda has to be one of the most scenic cities you will ever see. It is situated on high cliffs overlooking beautiful farm lands below. Due to the strategic location of Rhonda, it was the last arab holdout centuries after the Spanish resettled the rest of the country. The muslims have there own version of Robin Hood that hailed from these parts.

Oct 8, 2005 - Along the southern coast of Spain.

After the mountains we began to head along the coast towards the tip of Spain. We visited Nerja and Rhonda. Nerja had a really nice beach and plenty of shops that lined the old streets. Very pleasant city overall. The problem was that it was just too touristee for us. More Brits than locals. For us, that means stay for a day or two and run for the hills.

Oct 3, 2005 - Malaga is Fantastic!

Deby's flight to Malaga from Toronto was due to arrive an hour after mine and her sister Becky was picking us up. I found a seat and kept an eye on the arrivals board but there was nothing from Toronto. I assumed then that I was at the wrong terminal so I grabed my bags and headed for the other terminal. Terminal 1 arrivals is about as for away from Terminal 2 arrivals as you can get so I had a bit of a hike, and of course I get there and there is nothing from Toronto there ether. It turns out that Deby failed to mention that she would be...

Aug 3, 2005 - The high life in Benalmadena

We were fortunate to spend three weeks relaxing after all our hectic travels on the beaches of Benalmadena, Spain. My Irish aunt and uncle, Pauline and Shay have had a place there for years, that was not being used while we passed through. Feeling a bit road weary, we happily took advantage of the chance to have a place to call home. Among our favorite regular activities were a daily lounge on the beach, marathon reading sessions, watching tv in english, cooking and keeping things in a refrigerater, and doing laundry! Mostly we enjoyed...

We had a great meal and clare fortunatly managed to cover her blue cheesy hairy legs uop for the evening. We visited an historical...

Jul 24, 2005 - Nerja, SPAIN

Escaping the scorching heat of Ubeda, we headed straight for the Costa del Sol and the town of Nerja. We spent 3 days on the beach, visited the Nerja caves as well as the local "white village" of Frijillana. After seeing the Brits in action on the Costa del Sol, we feel a bit less ashamed at our American compatriots in Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen in Mexico.

Jul 22, 2005 - nightmare

it all started with our one week celebration of being away from home. We had a late night at a club in barcelona and didnt wake up in time for checkout at 11am. At noon the maid was banging on our door because she had to clean up the room for the next occupants and we were all still asleep. We crawl out of bed frantically trying to pack all our stuff(which was completely unpacked and everywhere) to get out in a hurry. In the madness we forgot our train tickets to granada but didnt realize this until 5 min before boarding our train. Without...

Jul 18, 2005 - costa del all loved up!

Finally made it to Malaga and met up with Jose again, it was sooo worth the wait! OK that is enough about all that as you are no doubt one of my many many single friends, unless you have newly found your match - you know who you are ms flip flop, or one of the few that have someone, anyway i won't go on... Last few days in Barcelona were great, actually managed eventually to see a building that is in a guide book, of course, my cutural awareness continues and I have no idea what the name was, when it was built or in fact what it was, I will...
