Jan 23, 2012 - Some impressions of Christa in South Korea / einige Bilder zu Christa in Südkorea

As I'm in the getting-prepared-to-finally-say-good-bye-phase, I thought, I attach some pictures of my stay in South Korea to give you an impression of it and to give me the opportunity to have a look at it. Christa in different kontexts :-) Enjoy! Also, viel Vergnügen bei Christa in...

Jan 23, 2012 - Lunear New Year / Lunares Neues Jahr

Today the streets are empty. It's D-day lunear New Year. We decide to have breakfast in Paris Baguette and take the risk to walk there. We don't know if it's open. While walking there, we pass a man and he says behind his mask 'good morning'. We are so surprised as normally people don't greet that we both look at him and answer good morning to you, too, quick as a shot. We are lucky, our place is open and we enjoy a breakfast. As we don't know how it looks like with our flight to Seoul, we decide to take the bus to the airport which is not...

Jan 22, 2012 - Relax and let go/ entspannen und loslassen

Sunday, everything is quiet as everybody starts to celebrate New Year. Manuela and I sleep in, take a taxi (our favourite activity :-)) and drive down-town. We feel like having a massage. So, we check the possibilities and get an appointment at 5pm. As we walk out of the hotel, suddenly somebody is calling my name. It's Sarah (I can remember her, but am not sure from where....). She is so surprised and touched to see me that she starts to cry. A wonderful moment. We have a chat, then she needs to go. Manuela and I head for coffee and...

Jan 21, 2012 - Grades, relax, fairwell dinner / Noten geben, entspannen, Abschiedsessen

Ok, here we are. First day without class, however, I need to read the papers and to calculate the grades. BUT: today, I relaxed. I feel tiredness in my body - a lot of impression becoming more concious. First of all, breakfast at Sleeping in Seattle so in love with espresso. This became our morning ritual. Then back to the suite ;-) to work a bit, then by taxi to the herbal market which was founded 1658. We started in the museum which was very interesting. After this experience, back to KNU to meet Changmin which helped me with the flight...

Jan 20, 2012 - End of class / Letzter Unterricht

Wow, the three weeks passed by very fast. Looking back, it was a wonderful experience, very touching. As the final task, I was asking them what they would take with them and how they will meet people from different culture from now on. They had to draw it. Have a look at some examples yourself. Then we said good-bye and I my eyes were filled with tears. One student approached me and said, thank you very much. Is it ok to hug you? I answered of course. I think that was a big compliment and he showed his sympathy. Afterwards, I met the Prof...

Jan 18, 2012 - Giving a speech, fairwell dinner / Eine Rede halten, Abschiedsessen

I was invited by a Prof of Fine arts to attend the opening ceremony of a new exhibition. Shortly before, I heard through the grapewines that she would like me to hold a short speech. What can you do? I came up with a few words on the simularities of intercultural communication and arts in connection with a changing world. A Korean woman translated the speech. They liked it a lot and the Prof. said it was impressive. Afterwards, I went for the fairwell dinner. KNU invited us to a traditional Korean restaurant. Four high-ranking professors...

Jan 17, 2012 - A Korean dress / ein koreanisches Kleid

I had a fun class today. It's touching to see how these young people unfold and start to be more open. Even my most traditional student who always bows starts to have a bit more eye contact and to laugh out loudly. It's a pity that the course will be over in two days. We could have explored the world and its cultures for a longer period. After the class, I had a meeting with Lorne and then she took us to the market. I mentioned that I liked the Korean dresses (there are not supposed to show anything from the female body) and she said, do...

Jan 16, 2012 - Learning about Korean culture / Über die koreanische Kultur lernen

Today in class there was a student coming late. He came 20 min later and ask me if he could sign in the attendance list. I neglected as I told the students at the beginning that their attendance was part of the final grade (of course, I always have some minutes spare, but 20 were too much). He looked at me one short moment, apologized, then bowed several times and walk away from me, still bowing. Phuu, seeing this was a strange feeling. I suddenly understood a high power culture. An hour later, I was reading the feed-backs of the students...

Jan 15, 2012 - A day trip to Seoul/ein Tagesausflug nach Seoul

Today, I spontaneously decided to go to Seoul. There I met the Slovakian Prof who was invited by his student assistent to go to Seoul the day before. He picked me up from the station and we walked from there to the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art in the Itaewon district which consists of three museums. Museum 1 was designed by Mario Botta, Museum 2 by Jean Nouvel and 3 by Rem Koolhaas (see http://leeum.samsungfoundation.org/eng/main.asp). Part of it looks a bit like the Guggenheim Museum in NY. We had a look at museum 1: traditional art with an...

Jan 14, 2012 - Donghwasa Temple

Jan 13, 2012 - Visit on the US army camp/Besuch im US army camp
