That's what Bill Clinton called the DMZ. The waiver I had to sign said "The visit to the JSA...will entail entry into a hostile area and posibility of injury or death as a direct result of enemy action" (!!) Today was very interesting indeed. I like to think that in a few years, maybe a few more, all these mad things like the Berlin Wall and the Korean DMZ, and nutty places like North Korea and Afghanistan as they are now, will have become things of the past, and people won't quite beiieve how we could have been so venal and stupid. Jul 31, 2008 - DMZ & JSA Panmunjeom Tour
July 31, 2008 This day I took a trip to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on the border of North and South Korea. It was truly an amazing trip as it showed us how tremendously different North is from South (outside of the obvious). After going through a military check of our passports (which felt a little strange) we visited the Dorasan Train Station first. Korea er verdens eneste land som fremdeles er splittet etter 2. verdenskrig / den kalde krigen, delt i to av en demilitarisert sone (DMZ) mellom nord og soer som strekker seg 24 mil paa tvers av halvoeyen og deler landet i to. 1 million miner 2 km til hver side av grensen hindrer nordkorea aa gaa til angrep paa soerkorea (Noen som saa James Bond - Die another day?). Det eneste militaere unntaket i sonen er Panmunjom, en liten leir der nord og soer moetes til forhandlinger. Et besoek til DMZ uten en historietime er helt umulig, saa her...
