It was 7 a.m. when we docked in Durban, located on the East coast of South Africa. According to our guide, it is the second largest city (Cape Town is first) and South Africa's busiest, though not largest, port. Vasco da Gama discovered it in 1497 for Portugal, but the British and Dutch settled the area. Today, 3.5 Million inhabit Durban, 75% of whom are black, 10% Caucasian and the rest are a melting pot of other races, particularly Indian.
