Sep 22, 2011 - Change of plan!

Firstly, sorry I didn't explain the pictures. Two are cheetah and the third is of the rare African wild dog. Interesting change of plan announced last night! Due to some new taxes the Botswana government is insisting should be paid, instead of staying on the Botswana side of the Chobe river for a week, starting tomorrow, we are now to stay at a 5-star lodge on the Namibia side. Photography will be in the exact same places as planned, but we sleep on the opposite side of the river! We still end up in Botswana a few times for a while, so...

Sep 22, 2011 - Cheetah Centre - info

Thursday - A 6:15 a.m. start for a drive to the Ann de Wildt Cheetah Centre, about an hour away from Pretoria. That is an hour without traffic.... of which there turned out to be a lot...! However, we got there just in time for the cheetah run at 8:00 a.m. Three cheetahs are encouraged by lures to race along (separately) for exercise and to sharpen their hunting skills. Wow! Those things really M O V E!!! It was amazing. Then we spent several hours there, seeing more cheetah (including some adorable babies), honey badgers (one was a...

Sep 21, 2011 - The journey and arrival!

Blog Made it to London on time (3:30 a.m. Tuesday your time).  That made 20.5 hours into my trip from home. Another pleasant flight. The AC flight attendants not looking TOO pleased about life, but this is understandable considering they have effectively lost any bargaining power courtesy of the present federal government!    I spent the next several hours sitting in the executive lounge, waiting for my South African Airways flight to leave at 11:00 a.m. your time (28 hours into the trip!).  Thank the Lord the 11-hour flight from London to...

Sep 21, 2011 - Stuffed at Baobab!!

Nadia, who collected us at JNB, took us exploring a mall in Pretoria this afternoon. Interesting to see some familiar places like The Body Shop, KFC, Seattle Coffee, etc., interspersed with some very different stores. We took her to dinner at Baobab (pronounced By-o-bab).  The baobab is a tree which looks like it's growing upside down due to the roots at the top!  Excellent food and an ENORMOUS plateful!  And they say Americans eat huge amounts!!!  I had kingklip which is a white ocean fish, along with pap shiba (a rough maize meal with a...

Sep 21, 2011 - Arrived in Jo-burg and staying at the Guest House here

Hello Everyone, Diane and I have arrived in South Africa - on time and with all of our luggage. Thanks to flying Business Class, we had fabulous sleeping arrangements on both the AC and the SAA airlines. The SAA airlines have won the award 3 years in a row for their fabulous seats - a gentle massage roller button to press as well. It feels so weird to have travelled 40 hours worth and 5hr,11hr,8hr flights and be here in South Africa. Amazing. Today is Wed and tomorrow we go to the Cheetah breeding area and watch them run, Friday we leave...

Sep 14, 2011 - Pretoria - Villa Africa

Jun 14, 2011 - A call to go...

I thought I would share a song that I wrote and we played in our band last night for prayer night in preparation for our next trip. I was reminded that we need to continue to seek the lost, hurting and blinded people of this world. Called to the nations Verse: You have called us to the nations Spreading your words of love We’re your people, sent as servants Sharing the message of Christ Pre-Chorus: Who will follow, who will listen? Surely there’s someone to go? Chorus: So stir up the churches Draw sinners back to you Verse: Led in Spirit,...

Jun 1, 2011 - A special birthday poem

On the run for Jesus… Of all the crazy things I thought I’d ever do To share the love of God, with people such as you. I’m on the run for Jesus Each day I seek His will So many empty lives with hope I need to fill A question asked “Who is my neighbour?” Yet in my toil and in my labour I’m on the run with Jesus No person is excluded The sick, the poor, the weak, the feeble, the homeless and deluded. Doing your work and being a witness Requires me to maintain my spiritual fitness I’m on the run to Jesus For it’s Him who fills me up It’s God...

Jun 1, 2011 - Inner-city Pretoria

I returned from the inner-city on Friday 20th May and spent the following weekend writing down my reflections from the experience. As you read it, be encouraged to see how God is working through me and continuing to change me into the person He wants me to be. Highlights In the first week, I was able to reach 25 people for Jesus and be in my element, witnessing to and talking with people about God. On the second week I helped lead one guy to Jesus and witness to at least 20 more people. Finding JOY in doing God’s work! Key things learnt I...

May 26, 2011 - Return from outreach

We returned from the inner-city last Friday (20th) and have spent all of this week doing Missions Mobilising. This basically means encouraging people to go out from the church into the world, working longer term. I will be updating the blog with my reflections. We had an amazing time and saw God work in many great ways. On our last night there was one guy who gave his life to the Lord...how amazing!
