Day 6. 19/8/2019 Monday. Cape Town to Matjiesfontein We relaxed in total luxury at the Rovos Rail waiting room, offered Champagne, wine or orange juice and beautiful sandwiches and fresh fruit. Rohan Vos, owner of Rovos Rail, gave a welcoming talk. Due to running on South African time, we were 1+ hour late leaving. The train is less than 50% full, and not only have we been upgraded, we have a whole carriage to ourselves! We chatted with a Danish couple who are on their second trip. So, dogs were babysat, car packed and finally, Wendy (No 1 personal tour guide), Alan (my patient and excellent personal driver) and I (a most appreciative and inquisitive tourist) set off for the Garden Route road trip. And what a trip it turned out to be ........ Apr 17, 2012 - Another full days drive & an amazing little town

Another beautiful day. The weather has been superb. On our way by 6am again. Trucks everywhere. Cannot believe the amount of trucks on the road. Quite a bit of road works. Can wait for 15 – 20 minutes before our turn comes but then we can travel 10 kms or more before facing any on coming traffic. Some stops split the trucks and cars – letting the cars go first. Others just let everyone queue. That can mean there are up to a couple of dozen trucks in front that we have to work our way through. The trucks never seem to travel at more than...
