Jun 5, 2006 - Kruger - Day 1 Berg En Dal

Driving in to Kruger yesterday we saw more hippos, giraffes, elephants, and kudu before we ever got to the campsite. We all got up at 4:45 am today for an early morning game drive. We saw more elephants, giraffes, impala, kudu, vultures, rhinos, hyena, more warthogs, and bunches of other birds along the way. (Monica - I think it was even colder than the tiger safari.) We're about to head to another section of Kruger, and will go on an evening game drive after we set up camp. Lucy said this is the one wher her passengers have the best luck...

Apr 16, 2006 - Kirkman's Kamp - living in the lap of luxury

We left the campground shortly after the gate swung open at 6am. The sun had just begun to rise. As we drove the paved road, a little face peered out of the tall grass at me. Ken slammed on the brakes and crept backward. The little face was still there; a mama hyena with two cubs gamboling in the grass behind her. Apr 14, 2006 - Krueger National Park

As we continued through Swaziland, we were stopped twice by police blockades. The first time they chatted us up a bit, but the second time they waved us through. We suspected that we did not fit the profile of the political protesters who had shut down the border two days ago and were happy to see the "Welcome to South Africa" signs once againas we crossed without incident or long wait. at this point in our trip, we have explored so many cities, beaches, mountains and lakes. we have driven new roads, seen new sites and met many new people. we have become reacquainted with our Chilean relatives and learned about new cultures and lifestyles. it's only been 2 months, but we have come to learn, appreciate and value our new perspectives, while at the same time, we have discovered a new found appreciation for what we also have at home. as our trip comes to an end, we start to realize that people will ask us, "what was your...

Leia Hi everyone, We have had such an eventful time since our last entry. Here goes.... We flew from Cape Town to Jo'burg and drove the 5 hours to the Kruger National Park to begin our safari 5th/6th Dec Satara rest camp We stayed in a luxuary bungalow.
