The next day we set off back over the Long Tom Pass driving slowly through the thick fog. After a few hours we arrived into Barberton. This beautiful town dates back to the gold rush days of the late 19th century, when it was a boom town and home to South Africa's first (and second) stock exchange. All the working gold mines in the area are now over 100 years old and the town itself just plods along in a relaxed country manner.
