Feb 5, 2008 - Sailing the Coral Sea

Hello to everyone and thanks for stopping by . We have been sailing the Coral Sea for the last few days . The weather has been variable , some sun and some showers . The seas were quite rough earlier but now have become calm . Currently we are 260 nautical miles from land and the water depth is 9800 ft . Tomorrow at about 1 PM we should arrive in the Solomon Islands at Honiara . We have been informed that this is an " emerging destination " so it should be interesting . Mar 1, 2005 - Passed the Solomon Islands

On March 1, 1945, Daddy's boat passed the rest of the Solomon Islands including Plum Pudding Island where Biuku Gasa and Eroni Kumana, Solomon Islands natives of Melanesian descent, discovered John F. Kennedy and the rest of PT-109's crew following the boat's collision with the Japanese destroyer Amagiri near Plum Pudding Island on August 2, 1943.

Feb 28, 2005 - Passed Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands at Night

On February 28, 1945, Daddy sighted "Vlauva" Island and passed Guadalcanal at night. A search of the internet does not produce any such name. However, there is an island group called the Vanuata Islands (formerly known as New Hebrides) and as well as another island group called the Tuvalu Islands. Both island groups would have been on the route Daddy's boat took. However, Vanuata Islands are closer in proximity to the Solomon Islands; therefore, it is likely that Vanuata Islands are the islands that Daddy referred to as "Vluava" Island....
