Jul 7, 2011 - Novo Mesto: FulFILLING in every way!

Novo Mesto proved to be a true highlight of our true, although I must say, the beginning was a bit more expensive than we had planned... As we drove across the border, we attempted to find someone who could share information and stamp our passports, but the border station was empty so our drive through was uneventful. We then changed drivers & Mark drove for a bit. He passed through a toll gate with again no one there to pay or receive information. As we passed through the next gate just a few miles from Novo Mesto, we were greeted with a...

Jul 7, 2011 - Novo Mesto: More family & scenes from the town

Novo Mesto was such an outstanding visit. The simple life really is something to learn from as they are so family-oriented. Parents, children, & grandchildren continue to live in the same house & work together to make it a home. They grow their own vegetables, make their food all from scratch, & drink their own homemade blueberry and sour cherry schnapps. Delicious!!

Aug 15, 2007 - Veszprem-Keszthely-Otocec

The ride today was easier the yesterday and we finished earlier than expected, which is a good thing since the transfer to Slovenia was a total nightmare!!!!! We had to cross the border from Hungary into Croatia first. So, you leave Hungary and 100 feet ahead you enter Croatia. Leaving a EU country to a non-EU country is apparently more of an issue than EU to EU. Then it's the same between Croatia and Slovenia, but on top of that, we were in line behind 5 buses, and they made everyone get out of the buses, show passport, etc. All in all,...

Up early and had some breakfast. For easter you have ham with fresh grated horseradish. After eating we were on our way to Metlika. Tomaz's parents still live there in the same house. We stopped there to drop off the kids and then Tomaz and I went off. We went to the museum there and learnt about the area and why great grandma and grandpa would have left. A disease wiped out all the grape harvest for a few years and there was not enough money for everyone so 1/3 of the population left for the americas or western europe. We drove al around...

Apr 7, 2007 - Happy Bday Bro!

After some breakfast, Vane, Tomaz and I went out to the garden to do some work. We were making a patio in the backyard. Lydia and Ivor were going to Ljubljana for a tennis tournament that Ivor was playing in. I got put to work shoveling. It was actually fun. There is a farm behind them with sheep and roosters that never shut up. That was some entertainment. Vane took me on a bike ride around Novo Mesto in the afternoon where I'm sure I bruised my butt. He took me all over the place and we stopped for some ice cream where I was the center...
