Sep 3, 2013 - Kobarid

Tuesday, September 3rd Breakfast and off to Lake Bled...about an hour north near the Austrian border. It is a popular Slovenian resort surrounded by the Julian Alps, a fairy-tale island, and a cliff-hanging castle. Began with a visit to the castle...fabulous photo op! Our guide took us through the small museum. Then we choose to have a decadent piece of their famous cream cake...actually split one and it was plenty...to die for, as was the coffee! Then we decided to walk around the lake...3.5 miles. Lots of picture taking...the church on...

Dec 6, 2006 - We Are Here!!

Greetings from Colmberg, Germany!! We have been in our little apartment for almost a week now and we are extremely pleased with our choice!! We arrived at Logan and were pleasantly surprised that our Air France flight would not be full. So we asked for a window and aisle seat towards the back of the plane with the hope that the middle seat would not be booked. The air-gods smiled on us and we had a very comfortable flight - Allen even got to stretch out on the row behind us for several hours. What an enormous difference it made!! AND - was...

Jun 2, 2006 - Overrated Udine

Wouldn't you know it, we were stuck in a traffic jamb on the motorway. It took us over an hour to break through. Hot as fifty bastards in the back of the cramped Subaru and my back was still killing me. I just couldn't get comfortable. Great view of the Alps though. We managed to break free and rocked on up to Udine just before lunch and went in search of a place to stay the night. We found a cafe to rest up and check out what to do. The cafe turned out to have the best capuccino I had ever tasted. After sorting out our plan of attack we...

Aug 21, 2005 - Bovec, Solvenia! (the best part of the trip ever!)

Well don't know if you can tell by the title but Bovec has been our absolute favorite so far. Little town (1200 to be exact) that relies on winter and summer sports for its economy--anyone thinking about a little bit of Bridgeport and Mammoth right now? I was feeling right at home! Beautiful town nestled inside the Julian Alps and all I can say to describe it was absolutely gorgeous! We were so excited to come here as we learned that some of the activities we were hoping to do in Switzerland were going to be half the price in Slovenia, so...

Nov 10, 2004 - Sensational Slovenia

We've spent the last 5 days in lovely Slovenia, firstly up north in the mountains in Bled and then down on the coast in Piran. Bled was a beautiful place set in the Julian Alps. The hostel was run by an old Slovenian man called Damien who fussed over us like grand children. We went for a walk one day and saw the waterfall, the water was a deep green colour. We also walked around the town, which is set around a lake, and saw the castle. The church you can see in the photo is on an island in the middle of the lake. We spent the last few days...
