June 26/12 – 24C 50km Total 910km Tulln to Vienna and Trnava We awake to another beautiful sunny morning and have a delicious breakfast before we depart at 8:00am. The riding again today is effortless and we arrive at the outskirts of Vienna in just over 1.5 hours. The bike trails along the Danube Canal and through the city are very well marked and wide – a great city to cycle in!! We found our way to the Westbahnhof station quite easily and stored our gear. From here it was only 2 blocks to the Vienna Explorer office to return our bikes....Jump to full entry
Jun 5, 2012 - Family, Food, Conversation and more Food!
The next few days have been filled with conversation, laughter, food, wine and more food. A visit to Fero´s sister included a huge traditional Slovak meal of homemade chicken soup, turkey schnitzla and potato salad. It was heavenly and we were sufficiently satisfied when along comes dessert – oh …….our poor stomachs! Thankfully we have been skipping dinners as the lunches are out of this world. Friday we spend the day in Piestany, a beautiful small city that is home to thermal pools and wonderful spas. Kim ventured to try the Deluxe Massage...Jump to full entry
Jun 4, 2012 - The Adventure continues…….
We have been busy in Slovakia catching up with relatives and visiting. On Monday June 4th we welcomed a new family member into the world – Quinn Lubo Kohucik, a darling son for Eric and Brigitte. The celebrations went well into the night and Tuesday was spent quietly visiting at home. The weather was quite cool and raining so it was a good day to relax. Wednesday Fero, Kim and I took the train via Bratislava to Vienna. The journey was 2 hours through beautiful countryside and before we knew it we were at our destination. The main purpose of...Jump to full entry
Jun 3, 2012 - Our Journey Begins in Slovakia
Sunday June 3rd we arrived safe and sound in Vienna after what seemed like a long flight and layover in London. Austrian immigration and customs were extremely efficient and we were on the streets of Vienna within a half an hour of landing. Lubo, Fero´s brother greeted us with huge hugs and we were whisked off to their home of Trnava, Slovakia, a mere hour from Vienna airport. The Austrian & Slovakian countryside is gorgeous and the temperature was a lovely 28C – summer arrives early in this region. We arrive in Trnava to hugs, champagne,...Jump to full entry
I left Vancouver an hour late from Vancouver on July 2nd. The flight was nice however my 2 hour connection became a 45min connection from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 at Heathrow Airport. Needless to say I got my exercise as I bolted off the plane and ran the length of Terminal 4 - it felt like 2km to the transfer bus to Terminal 1. As soon as the bus stopped I was off and running again along with a few other folks. As we turned a corner there was a loud groan from all of us as the security line ups were horrendous. Thankfully we were allowed...Jump to full entry
