Sep 8, 2018 - Singapore sling

We're taking a lovely sojourn in Singapore with Lan's parents, arriving in the very early morning of 6 Sep. It's been lovely to catch up, with the added bonus of the weather being quite mild. We've been treated to some spectacular thunderstorms during our time here. Jane has been enjoying the footy finals (despite the Hawks losing their match) and Lan has been accompanying her mother to the gym to hit the treadmills. Tomorrow we are heading off to London!

Aug 14, 2018 - Singapore

14 August 2018 A lazy morning. Had thought of going back to Orchard Road, but decided we were happy to relax. As we had a late checkout at 2pm, decided to take the shuttle to Novena for one last visit there. Back to room for final shower and pack, then checkout and taxi to airport. Knew we would be a bit early, but it would be quieter at airport rather than hotel lobby. Good to find out on arrival at the airport that they have an early checkin lounge. We were the only ones there, so all very quick and friendly. Just the thumb print to get...

Aug 13, 2018 - Singapore

13 August 2018 Made an earlier start today and caught the 9.25 shuttle to the Novena shopping centre and the MRT. Hopped off at Town Hall Station and met Joan Gray and her two sisters Gwen & Chris. So good to see them. The coffee shop we had thought of (from 10 years ago) isn't there any more!! Joan suggested the coffee shop under their accommodation, and there we were for over two hours!! The people were very nice & didn't move us on, and much chatter evolved. We had a quick look at their room, bid our farewells and we headed for Sentosa...

Aug 12, 2018 - Singapore

12 August 2018 At last a good night's sleep. It probably helped that we remembered that we had tablets from the health food shop to help us sleep on the plane. Anyway, something worked, and we slept until 8am. Will use the tablets again tonight. A casual morning until Stefan & Leanne picked us up at 11.30am. So good to see them, the boys have grown up so much, and what great kids they are. Very friendly to us and well mannered. Stefan chose a great place for brunch at the golf club. Sure helps to know "a local". Beautiful view looking over...

Aug 11, 2018 - Singapore

11 August 2018 Still waiting to sleep through the night! Think we were both awake only a couple of hours after turning in! Had a brief chat about a cup of tea, but resisted in case we are getting used to a drink at odd hours. Luckily we dozed off, Don waking just before 8am and Pam sleeping for another hour. Quite a bit of noise on our floor during the night. Obviously they arrived in the early hours, opened and banged doors for ages, and talking loudly! Started again this morning, taping room cards on doors and calling out. Don opened our...

Aug 10, 2018 - Singapore

10 August 2018 Another early morning cup of tea at 3am. A bit of reading, then back to sleep! Hopefully the body works out the right time soon. Set the alarm for 8.30am so we didn't sleep too long. Caught the 10.45 shuttle to Novena Shopping Mall. Found the MRT (underground railway), sorted our rail cards and set off for Marina Bay. Not sure exactly where we were, but soon found our way to Marina Bay and a shopping mall. Not many people around, a check with information and got directions to Gardens by the Bay. This shopping Centre is huge...

Aug 9, 2018 - Singapore

9 August 2018 The best laid plans don't always work. Thinking an early night would ward off the jet lag was not to be! We both slept well until just after 1am. Had a chat when we realized we were both wide awake, so a cup of tea at 1.30am followed by some reading, and by 3am we were ready to sleep again. It worked well & we slept until 10.15am. Was good to feel almost human again. The rain did not eventuate today, rather cloudy with a little sunshine now and again, and quite warm, supposedly 31.8d. We had brunch in our room, and then...

Aug 8, 2018 - Dubai to Singapore

8 August 2018 Our stopover in Dubai went quickly and we were soon on the way again. It was amazing that the airport got quite busy the longer we were there. Left Dubai a little bit late and consequently landed a little late in Singapore, but the flight was good and nice crew once again. Our flight was actually continuing on to Brisbane. It didn't feel like early morning to us, and then an afternoon arrival here! We both had some sleep. Don watched two movies and did some reading. Pam watched one movie and read for a while. Very overcast...

Apr 14, 2018 - Hakone to Singapore

Caught the bus to the Hakone Ropeway (which is a cable car), for supposedly fantastic views of Mt Fuji, and for volcanic activity. However, Mt Fuji was hiding again. But I did see spurting steam & sulphur yellow deposits. A small eruption occurred in 2015, leading to a second emission of gases

Mar 25, 2018 - Singapore Singapore

History: Spread across 63 islands at the tip of Malay peninsula, Singapore is the worlds only Island City,State and Country. 30 miles across and 15 miles long with 10 million people. Established in1819 by sir Stamford Raffles it grew into a sophisticated metropolis. No chewing gum or drugs. Like their criminal enforcement, you kill you die you sell or do drugs you die you throw cigarettes on the street or any litter $300 after 3 Times 2 months community service. Cleanest and savest city/country I have ever seen. Whoa, 500 sq ft apartment...

Mar 25, 2018 - Singapore - Orchids and Audrey

Singapore harbor is busy. We are at the Marine Bay cruise terminal with a large Chinese cruise ship for the next two days. Immigration is crisp and efficient but there are a lot of people to process. Not much shopping at the terminal , just a money changer, electronic phone accessories and a small convenience store. Viking has a shuttle over to Marine Bay mall with all high end stores. Marine Bay is also where the Marina Bay Sands Sky park is. The Sky park spans three skyscraper towers 57 floors high. Skies are threatening as we board the...

Jan 20, 2018 - Singapore - Southeast Asia Cruise

We returned to Singapore and the Mandarin Orchard hotel. While our bags were making it from the ship to the hotel, we were taken on another tour. This time we stopped by the Merlion Park for awhile and then to China Town for a farewell Seafood Lunch. I wasn’t looking forward to the ride home and the Philippine Airlines was late again, but I didn’t wear the back brace this time and that seemed to help. We've only been home three days and I've been fighting a cold and trying to finish this journal entry. We leave again in two days for South...
