The Romanian border was the first at which I had to show my passport, including the Channel crossing. After only a few minutes, I overtook the first horsecart. Then another. The trip has been getting more and more rural throughout, but Romania is extremely agrarian. After the first overnight stop in Satu Mare, I tailed four cyclists out of the city. Friends, there comes a time in every traveller's journey when the road lifts up and trips you up. the measure of a person, of course, is not in their character when things go well, but in how colourfully they curse when things do not.
