Jun 29, 2012 - This stop looks good on our world map, doesn't it?
Setting foot on the ground of the hosts of the 2022 World Cup for just a brief time, we almost got kicked out for taking photos, Rosy felt incredibly underdressed even in the airport with her calf length skirt and t-shirt- very different, and from the bottom of our hearts, we wish any brave 2022 World Cup spectator the very best of luck in enduring the heat here!!!!!

4-24 Still in Bahrain... Wiki Info Manama Wiki Info Bahrain Natl Museum 4-24 Still in Bahrain: Concord Hotel Dhows, pearls, water, date palms, and burials...the national museum! It is amazing to me how much the discovery of oil has changed the entire culture of the area, especially this ancient one here in Bahrain! Since 1932 when oil was first discovered until 1980's it seems to have slowly eroded what had taken 100's if not several thousand years to evolve. However, it has taken just the past couple decades to completely irradicate and...

Dec 23, 2010 - Doha, Qatar
@@@@@@@ We made our first visit to the Persian Gulf during the Christmas holidays in January 2006. Our daughter Adia was able to join us for the trip and we stayed with our good friends Cathy and Paul Moreau, who were living in Abu Dhabi at the time. It was our first visit to the UAE and we had a great time seeing all the sights in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Oman as well. We were really pleased when Anil was able to find us a flight from Luxor in southern Egypt directly to Doha, Qatar so that we didn’t had to fly all the way north to Cairo in...

Apr 29, 2010 - The Museum of Islamic Art
Doha, Qatar: The Museum of Islamic Art ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 28-29 April 2010 The Museum of Islamic Art (MOIA) is a colossus, sitting on its own island, accessed by a palm-lined 200 foot causeway. It was commissioned in 2000 and opened by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa on 22 November 2008 or 24 of Dhul Qa'da 1429 depending on what dating system you use. It houses the largest collection of Islamic art in the world, items garnered from around...

Apr 29, 2010 - Doha: Around and About
Doha, Qatar: Around and About ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 27-30 April 2010 I'll not beat about the bush: frankly there is not that much to do in Doha, especially as a single traveller. There are good day trips - the 'cultural tour' and a trip to the inland sea for example - if you can rustle up a group of four or if you have really deep pockets to have a trip just for you. But on your own your are, well, on your own. There are three specific...

Mar 29, 2010 - 15 hours in Doha
After deciding to pay the 100 rials($35) to enter Qatar, we cleared customs and landed in the arrivals hall. It was pretty clear not many people make the same decision - the arrivals hall is a lonely place. Even the information desk ( which was not very helpful) is in the departures hall, along with the ATM machine and many other useful things for arriving travellers. Maps appear to be somewhat of an unknown entity. We aim to head towards "souq al watif", but we are told it was closed, Just then, out of the taxi window, a beautiful building...

Jan 2, 2010 - D-Day (that would be DEPARTURE!)
Well the 2nd January has finally arrived. After much frustration yesterday trying to check-in online, we finally have two sets of boarding passes. Melbourne to Doha then Doha to Cairo. Qatar flight 31 departs Melbourne airport at 2355 hrs tonight arriving Doha at 0625 hrs tomorrow. Then a lengthy stopover of 6 hrs before Qatar flight 514 takes us to Cairo. No doubt the first thing we do at the hotel is sleep. Maybe.... Got to airport nice and early -so early that check-in for Qatar hadn't opened. Finally they opened and once we were ride of...

Nov 16, 2009 - Killing Time in Transit at Qatar’s Airport en Route to Jordan
Well, it is around 7:30 in the morning, and we are sitting here in the transfers area of Qatar’s international airport in Doha. We are en route from Bali to Amman, the capital of Jordan, and have a more than 7 hour layover here. Our flight arrived here at around 5 a.m., and as internet does not appear to be working in the airport right now, we are simply trying to pass the time before our flight to Amman at 12:30 this afternoon. Given the length of our layover here in Doha, we would have ideally liked to have done an overnight layover...

A presto, Leo.

May 20, 2009 - QATAR - Doha
We spent a night in Doha airport enroute to South Africa. Doha and their neighbors import much cheap Nepali labor so our flight was packed with men going to work in construction, mining, etc. Very hard life, no doubt. The airport was spotless and relatively comfortable. It must be such a culture shock for the Nepali workers coming here for the first time. So modern and full of high-end duty free shops (including Mercedes for sale). For a quick overview of Qatar by the BBC, click here

Apr 25, 2009 - Doha.
26 April. At midnight between 25 and 26 April local time, I arrived to Doha, Qatar in the Persian Gulf. A rather boring airport, but anyway, nice with a break halfway home, to could leave the aircraft and have the possibly to move and walk for a while. What irritated me most was that we have pass through some mean less a pointless security controls. What do they expect to find? For example; I arrived to Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. In Bangkok I have to go through a security controls. When I come to Doha, First thing I have to do is to go...

My flight didn't leave Singapore until 2 in the morning so needless to say I had some spare time. Super duper airport, free wifi, they take any currency in the world and loads of shopping and places to eat good food at reasonable prices...go figure! Finally it was time to board and the flight was great, fast and unmemorable, just how I like them. Only bad part was getting into Doha at 5 in the morning...yikes! Got through customs, paid for my visa and went to see how I would get to the hotel. You go out to a room, that's it! Nothing but...
