Jun 11, 2019 - Visit to Cascais

Today we took a bus to the seaside village of Cascais where our friends Bonnie and Ed Tohid live. This was once just a small fishing village but today Cascais is touted to be one of the most desirable towns in which to live yet located a short train ride away from all that Lisbon has to offer. We walked around the waterfront area and saw Cidadela Fort. We had lunch on the terrace of Capricchiosa Restaurant and had a nice visit with Bonnie and Ed.

May 6, 2017 - Cascais

Saturday 6th May 2017, Cascais - last day in Portugal Decided not to have the Spumante offered at breakfast. And didn't burn the croissants. Had the latest start ever today as it was declared a rest day. Time to stop and smell the roses and see the pigeon nesting on our verandah. Walked and walked. Sat a lot too, just looked. Not a lot of Portuguese culture to get to know as the place is chock full of tourists. Never mind we enjoyed relaxing and strolling along the boardwalk for miles. Such a great - day did not need my jumper until 8 pm....

May 5, 2017 - Visit to Sintra from Cascais

Friday 5th May 2017 day trip from Cascais to Sintra. This looked easy in the guide but..... Such a truck. Rained like crazy last night and over breakfast. Will we/won't we go? Take a risk. Just missed the 9am bus at the underground bus station - fortunately well ventilated, but we still our yearly dose of diesel fumes. Of the two, of course we took the bus that goes the road less travelled. Well on get anyway.Great scenery long the Atlantic coast with some dark rain clouds for atmosphere (pun). I now know what caused Christine's high blood...

May 4, 2017 - Lagos to Cascais

Thursday 4th May 2017 Lagos to Cascais Pronounced Caishkaaash ..... maybe. Breakfast nearly caused a problem. I wanted warm croissants so put them in the toaster. It is a slow moving belt under an element. Well the belt was too slow and a small fire ensued. So I sped the machine up to remove the burning embers, but slowed it down - bother wrong direction. The smoke detector was asleep so all was well except I thought I better eat the evidence. Smooth driving all the way on great highways. We have a transponder in the car (etag type thing)...

Sep 14, 2015 - Ponta Delgada

We arrived in Ponta Delgada today. Jerry and I have toured this island before, we decided not to tour it again today. We enjoyed the deck and took pictures from the ship. We will be at sea for the next six days before arriving back in the United States. I will catch up on all the updates and pictures once we are back home and settled in. It has been a wonderful cruise, we highly recommend the Royal Princess to all our readers. Check back later for more.

Sep 12, 2015 - Cascais, Portugal

After we left Sintra, we drove along the coast all the way back to Lisbon, we stopped in the amazing fishing village of Cascais, this was my favorite towns of all. It had a Saturday market going on in town and lots of great shops. We had fresh fish for lunch before driving back to Lisbon. The drive back was incredible, one beautiful beach after another. I also spotted a lot of lighthouses, I will be adding all the pictures when we arrive back home in the United States. We will be at sea tomorrow before our next stop in another part of...

Jul 9, 2015 - Cascais

I am now in Cascais in Portugal. Cascais is about a 45 minute drive from Lisbon, on the ocean......which should have been a 40 euro taxi ride! Except I got cheated out of 65! Oh well.....these things happen. I came to Cascais for my friend Ana's wedding to Peter who is Australian. They live in Australia but Ana is from Cascais. I am very lucky to be staying with Isabel, a friend of Ana's in a huge house right in the centre of Cascais. Not sure how many bedrooms......two maids, pool etc. it has been an extraordinary time meeting Ana's...

Jun 5, 2013 - Go West to Cascais

A bright start to the day again, although seems to be a haze over the aqueduct, but the sun will soon burn that off. There is no plan as such today, I thought I would see where I end up, and first bit is the Metro down through the city to the rivers edge, the last of the demons, for it was in his area that the bad times for last trip happened. I end up at Cais do Sondre station, I recorded my feelings about the trains that run along the coast before, but this time I am going to travel on them. A surprisingly smooth ride, and the train...

Lisbon---Again

Oct 19, 2011 - Portugal - Nazare to Cascais (near Lisbon)

19 Oct: Nazare marina is right next to the fishing boats refrigeration plant and very noisy so we didn’t have a brilliant night’s sleep. We set off again at 8am once it was light as good wind was forecast. The fog/mist had gone at last so we had good views of the coastline with steep cliffs and a few hills behind. Initially we were headed for Isla da Berlenga as we had to pass between that and the mainland before rounding the corner and heading south towards Lisbon and it was great to have something to aim for rather than just coastline on...
