Oct 8, 2015 - Obidos, Cascais

Obidos, Cascais 10/8/2015 We left the Bussaco Forest and our palatial hotel and headed to the fairytale-like medieval village of Obidos which was the wedding gift of King Dinis to Queen Isabel in 1282. The cobblestone main street wends up hill with many steep side streets off to the right. We were treated to cherry wine served in chocolate cups which we of course devoured after drinking the wine. There were many shops with some possible purchases, but nothing really enticing. On our way to the ocean, we stopped in the former fishing village...

Our next stop was at the beautiful Atlantic oceanfront resort, Marriott Praia del Rey, north of Lisbon. This was about our halfway point during our one month trip in Portugal and we decided to have an R&R (rest and relaxation) with nothing to do more than take long walks on the beach. The Marriott Praia del Rey is not only a hotel, but a community of vacation homes with a golf course and small shopping center. The hotel Photos 1-8 Maria Esteves, Sales Director, and Paulo Mesqita, General Manager, and his management team and staff helped...

The town sits on a high hill and is surrounded by impressive high town walls. We were surprised to find so many tour buses and cars in the car park. Some were actual tourist others were locals visiting a Christmas event in the town. We started our exploration just across the road admiring the...

Aug 24, 2010 - Obidos

It's a gorgeous night here in Obidos, a small, medieval walled-town, about an hour north of Lisbon. I'ts rather touristy in the day, kind of like a 12th century Disneyland, but in the evening the tourists leave and the town is rather quiet. It's a beautiful night with a full moon, cool breeze and very peaceful. I'm kind of drunk, after having a few caiperinhas wth some Danes and then a half-bottle of wine with dinner after walking around all day in the sun. I just had a lasagna dinner at a small restaurant outside the town walls. It wasn't...
