Feb 7, 2017 - Nossa Senhora da Roche

We had breakfast and Christine did some laundry and I wrote and updated yesterday's journal. After lunch we set off west to a rather unique chapel. The roads to the freeway were narrow and rough, but we got to a place close by called Armacao de Pera and our GPS let us down. The Church we were led to was not the one we wanted, nor was its name even close. We drew into a parking lot overlooking the sea in hope of seeing the one we wanted, but to no avail. We stopped a couple getting out of their car and showed them the photo in the guide...

Feb 6, 2017 - Vilamoura - Monte Carlo Portuguese Style

It was another sunny day today. It was 18 degrees and warm. We had no sweaters or jackets on all day. This was especially gratifying when we came home and checked the weather in Sherwood Park and discovered it was -26! We had breakfast and set off for Valmoura. Valmoura seems to be Portugal's Monte Carlo. It has a casino and a yacht marina that attracts mega yachts and celebrities from all over the world. We found our way to it and parked amongst a crop of large hotels. We walked between the Tivoli Marina Hotel and the beach to the entrance...

Feb 5, 2017 - Algarve Beaches

Last night I started a project which Christine had inspired. A few weeks ago I told her a story about my father which apparently she had never heard before. She asked if I had told this to the grandchildren - I had not and she felt I should. As I thought about this I realized there were probably many such incidents that might mean something to them, if not today, perhaps sometime in the future. I then decided to commit as many of these stories to writing as I could. The quiet and isolation of this place makes an ideal setting to do just...

Feb 4, 2017 - Albufeira

We rose and had a leisurely breakfast and checked the weather. It had rained overnight and the sky looked uncertain, but we decided to set off and hope for the best. It was quite warm and we headed for Albufeira as the sun came out. While the GPs is very good, the roads are so close together, it is easy to turn before one is supposed to, and of course, I did. While we did not get lost, we missed the parking lot I had hoped for, but after a detour reached my second choice. It proved to be convenient. We parked the car and crossed the road to...

Feb 3, 2017 - Birthday and Beaches

First my apologies to all those who tuned in early last night. I messed up in the narrative and cut off the opening part. It has now been fixed, so if you left scratching your head, please go back and re-read it as, hopefully, it now makes sense. We slept very well last night, especially notable as we often do not do so the first night in a strange bed. We had breakfast and settled in for a quiet morning. Christine read and did puzzles. We had been asked to show photos of the condo, so they are included today. Nan has been storing a set of...

Feb 2, 2017 - Arriving n Portugal

We were up very early today and had a quick breakfast before setting off for Edinburgh Airport. Nan dropped us and we made our way to the Jet2 checkin. We have never flown with them before and were unsure what to expect, but they were very good. The desk was quiet and we left our bags and headed for security. This has changed quite a bit since we left from here 18 months ago. It too was quiet and we got right up to the belt. I got through without a problem, but Christine set off alarms and had a full body scan which she passed. We...
