May 27, 2015 - To the end of the earth and back

We went out for coffee this morning and discovered a great fruit and vegetable market right across from us. Unfortunately we didn't need a lit of supplies but everything looked so great it was hard to control ourselves. Another sunny blue sky day. We left just after noon for a trip to the western part of the Algarve. The good news- we saw a lot of towns. The bad news- it was a lot longer than we anticipated. It was long because of all the stops to pick people up and then drop them off again. I think the distance we travelled was about 125...

May 26, 2015 - Another beach day

It was another one of those tough days on the job. Brilliant blue skies meeting the water, which is still cold! I have managed to get my ankles wet but that's it. Spent most of the day on our subbeds before returning to the apartment, cleaning up and walking into Vilamoura. Unfortunately you can't walk by the water but it only took us less than 30 minutes. Restaurants, restaurants, restaurants everywhere. The Mariana is very pretty and apparently one of the largest ones around. We had a lovely seafood dinner before walking back.

May 25, 2015 - Touring inland Algarve

We decided to take the tour today that took us inland in the Algarve to 3 very small villages. The weather was just right for this and although it threatened rain, none came but it wasn't a beach day. Tour guides here are very talented - today's guide switched between German and English so effortlessly, it was amazing. For the Greek travellers - we had just a wonderful bus driver who even helped people. The small places reminded me I'd Italy but of course much newer. We didn't realize it but the 1755 earthquake also destroyed much here so...

May 24, 2015 - A Relaxing Day at the Beach

It was a very tough day today. After breakfast in the apartment, coffee on the main avenue it was time to go to the beach and #75 subbeds. The sand is very nice but it is hard to walk as it is soft and there are breaks frequently. None the less, an enjoyable way to spend the day. It is so strange to look out at the ocean and see nothing - no islands in sight! The water is cold and fairly rough. We are now back having dinner at a little place along the boardwalk - clam appetizers followed by grilled sea bass and of course red wine! The final...

May 23, 2015 - Loule

Local bus day today as we traveled to Loule for market day. Same old stores over and over - nothing new although the little princess in Sask got an outfit from the Algarve today. It was definitely more touristic there and much busier. There was a nice little handicraft market but we didn't buy much. There was a huge fruit and vegetable market - lots of nice things around. The strawberries are red and juicy. Even bought cherries today. Back to our quiet and lovely little spot for a relaxing afternoon. Just sitting by the water and enjoying a...

May 22, 2015 - Beautiful beaches, sun and little wind

We arrived in the Algarve yesterday. Although the map says Loule we are staying in a little place called Quarteria which did not come up on the map. We got off the train in Loule. It was a bit confusing getting into the apartment but eventually all was solved. After a quick snoop around we were down by the water and walking the boardwalk along the beach which goes on and on. Looks lovely. We were totally shocked to see all the little shops and Chinese shops selling cheap beach supplies. No need to haul anything here. Had a nice seafood...
