Oct 11, 2015 - First visit with the Lady to Portugal

It's Sunday 27th Sept now; we arrived here Friday afternoon, this particular campsite recommended by friends from Bellavista. It's still being "created" has a long way to go, but it's already a fave - Mikki's Place to Stay - with dog owners, as they have their own shower, free poobags, and are allowed anywhere on the site without leads. Blue loves it, he had a row with 3 St.Bernards on the first day, but knows his place now! And Wilma the Jack Russell from next door had a go at him but he told her off and they're now friends. It's very...

Feb 5, 2014 - Albufeira

Well we've made it to Portugal at last & are now back in the same time zone as the UK. it seems strange crossing borders into different countries without having to go through passport controls. We haven't been near any mountains now for a week or so but we did go up & down a bit once we got into Portugal, nothing you could really call a mountain though. The main roads are similar to Spain but some of the minor roads were pretty poor. We stopped at one town called Quarteira which has a large Aire for motorhomes but this is closed on a...

Jan 18, 2014 - Albufeira and around

We had visited Albufeira and the surrounding area over 20 plus years ago on a family holiday. It certainly had changed with more apartments and a lot less picturesque. This is one of the main holiday destinations on the Algarve. However we did enjoy wandering through the streets and while Tony had a coffee, Daisy enjoyed a romp on the beach and a little play with one of the local dogs. The town had a number of good overlooks and seats in the sun. From Albufeira we headed west along the coast stopping at Armacao de Pera with its extremely...

Aug 2, 2011 - Beach Bumb

Beach was beautiful today! It was so crazy but the water line had rescinded so far back it was unbelievable! It made some nice warm "hot tub" areas though. I posted some pictures finally since internet is really had to come by here. Sorry for the delay. There is only six but when I get to Lisboa Sunday I'm sure I'll be able to post more. We went to a festival yesterday and I bought a purple braclet off a gypsy : ). But I wouldn't let her have my tears... (Borat reference) Anyhoo we are heading to a small town tonight called Altura for some...

Jul 25, 2011 - I burnt my bumb : (

I have a crazy burn on my back from the beach the other day. You can see perfectly where my bathing suit strap was and the bow from where I tied it LOL. I went to a shop in town today and bought this amazing cream and I can't even feel it anymore! When I got the cream the lady gave us a whole bunch of free samples and one free full sized eye cream. She also gave us a pretty cool beach tote. She works in the laboratory for the brand so she was promoting it hard! On our way back from Monte Gordo the other day in our taxi we almost got into...

Jul 10, 2008 - Sintra to the Algarves

July 10, 2008 Today is the day that will determine if I am going to be succesfull at driving inPortugal. All of the tourist books say it is the worst place to drive in the EU. However, we must first decide where we are going once we get the car. The general direction is the Algarve’s, but Bob only has a list of the beaches he wants to hit, but not where to stay in the Algarves. I make the executive decision to stay in Albefuria, which is in the middle of the Algarves. This way the furthest distance is only 1.5 hours to each end of the...

Feb 25, 2008 - Albuferia

We have found the spot we stayed at 20 years ago! Gale beach seems to have been ruined, it now has villas built almost all the way to the edge of the cliffs and a tarmac car par where we used to park but Quinta da Saudade, the complex where we rented a villa, is still there and seems relatively unchanged as does the area immediately aroun it. Having passed the entrance to the Quinta we spotted a sign to Praia Grande and found ourselves alongide old salt pans immediately behind the sand dunes and beach.
