Sep 20, 2005 - Krakow - Poland

Met a guy that runs a pub in Sydney at the train station at Katowice, Poland. We hit Krakow pretty hard, drinking lots of the local beer and honey vodka. The women in Poland are absolutely stunning. We couldn`t believe it, 9 out of 10 women were supermodels. And we both thought Prague was pretty good bird watching! I`m staying in a beautiful old hotel about 10 m off the Rynek Glowny (old town square) which is magnificent and the largest medieval town square in Europe. In fact Krakow is another incredible city, but becoming very touristy...

EUROTRIP 2005

Sep 11, 2005 - Krakow, Poland

Dzien Dobry, Leaving Cesky Krumlov, we took a quick stop in Vienna for a night before taking the first train to Krakow in the morning. It was nice, because Vienna is not an easy place to find accommodations, so we were able to book a pension for Thurs/Fri of this week when we return en route to Munich. Krakow is both and exciting and busy place packed with both tourists and locals. The Rynek Glowny is the largest square in Europe and has an abundance of architectural wonders and street performances both traditional in nature, and modern...

Sep 10, 2005 - Krakow

What a great time I had here. The people are friendly, things are relatively cheap and the hostel was awesome. I met two lads, James and Rob when we were all looking for our hostel, Nathan's Villa. After we'd had a coffee we headed out to Auschwitz. It was a sobering experience being where so many atrocities were committed. The sheer number of items that were left when the Germans evacuated are a ghastly reminder to the number of people who never left here. The stories, so few of which have nice endings give life and meaning to every...

MADISH 2005

Aug 23, 2005 - M: Krakow - Gulash, bohemian cafes and medieval splendor

Taking a 10-hour overnight train from Budapest to Krakow didn't seem like the most appealing idea, especially after two nights of shared bathroom accomodation in the Hungarian capital. But the very fact of arriving in Krakow at the break of dawn and not having a place to park our backpacks proved to be a unique chance to see the enchanting city without the hordes of tourists that engulfed it by mid-morning. Besides, the train ride was quite comfortable, since the 2-bed sleeper cabin was perfect for us, with free mineral water, towels, soap...

Aug 9, 2005 - Krakow, Poland

Hello, This is our last day in Poland. In a few hours we will board a train for Prague, Czech Republic. We are looking forward to exploring another country after spending 8 days in Poland. Poland has been a lot of fun- the people are nice, it's clean, and there is so much to see everywhere. Krakow is interesting- it has two sides to it. One is very medieval, it has a huge castle and lots of authentically old buildings, as the city escaped WWII almost untouched. The city is actually quite small, the Old Town is the original part of the city,...

Jul 27, 2005 - Krakow

So worried now that I'm not going to be able to put in everything that I want to Krakow and Slovakia cause I only have 20 minutes left! Krakow was very adorable--incredible town square and left very undamaged by World War II. You can tell it has an amazing nightlife but Nick and I were unable to find it (as I think itś all underground) and also to be honest I don't think either of us could be bothered after the massive meals we chose to gourge ourselves on. The main focal point and how whole reason for going to Krakow was Auschwitz and...

Jul 20, 2005 - Krakow...Perogies, Polish bus mafia and so much more...

Arrived from Dortmund (*Dortmund could very well be voted one of the most bring cities in the world. There wasn't really anything to do. Luckily we found some great german food and beer and went to the sauna-a bunch sauna in this complex where you walk around naked going from one to the other and in special ones you get freezies. That totally saved Dortmund.) on the 16th and after getting ourselves from the aiport to our hostel we didn't have much energy left for anything beyond finding some food and heading to bed. as we were sttling in we...

Jul 15, 2005 - Prague, Czech Republic

Gee, another week has gone by, time seems to fly by, even when you are not working ! 15 July, 2005 Even though we hated to leave our little retreat in Unterach, Austria... Prague welcomed us with open arms. We both had been anticipating visiting this city and wow, we were not disapointed at all. Even crossing into the country was not so bad, passport police seemed less aggresive and were actually on the friendly side. As we collected our thoughts, changed some money into the local currency (Czech Krowns) and were wondering how far our...

Jul 10, 2005 - Poland (Warsaw and Krakow)

I've wanted to see Warsaw ever since seeing the movie "The Pianist" where Adrian Brody won the academy award for Best Actor. Warsaw has so much rich and tragic history all wrapped up in one city. It loves its independence and freedom, but for years other countries have invaded and tried to destroy it. We stayed in Praga which is right outside of the old town. This part of the city was where the movie "The Pianist" was filmed because the real Jewish Getto and the old town of Warsaw were 90% destroyed by the Nazis after the 1944 Polish...

Jul 8, 2005 - Krakow, Poland

I hardly know where to begin. Krakow has been such a wonderful addition to my trip and I am glad that I made the effort to get here. Everything worked out well with my Easy Jet flight from Berlin so I arrived here yesterday afternoon. The hostel I am staying in isn't as high tech as the Berlin hostel but it is centrally located right off the main square. Yesterday I spent the afternoon exploring the old town and admiring the beautiful sqaure which is hemmed in by churches and several other historic buildings. Today I made the trek out to...
